BEST SINGLE LINE FROM A SONG

That FM reference made me think of this (more chorus than line)

Well it breaks my heart to see you this way
The beauty in life, where's it gone?
And somebody told me, you were doing okay
Somehow I guess they were wrong

Whistles The Wind

I've known some people that applied to and a few times over the years that person was me
they came a did Volaplooza one year I was in school. amazing to see them live.

for having a lot of upbeat/drinking songs, they get pretty heavy.

And I'll be here
In sunshine or in shadow
Oh Danny boy, oh Danny boy,
I love you so

Danny Boy - Frederic Weatherly to the traditional tune Londonderry Air.

My favorite version is by the Irish Tenors. Supposedly, the Catholic Church started pushing back on this secular song being requested and sung during funeral services in Boston. A man wrote that they would either sing "Danny Boy" at his funeral, or he'd get up and walk out.

There would be one long staircase just going up and one even longer coming down,
And one more leading nowhere just for show.

If I Were a Rich Man - Sheldon Harnick and Jerry Bock.
One of the well known renditions is by Chaim Topol

Honestly, anything written from the great Thin Lizzy vocalist/bassist Philip Lynott would qualify. I'll go with this verse from "With Love" from Black Rose:
My mademoiselle, I must make my farewell.
You see, senor, I know she don't she want me no more.
I'd like to make that fraulein mine, mein fraulein.
So I'll depart, my sweetheart, and leave you with this line.....

"All I wanted was one chance to let freedom ring, they said I had to get a permit, tags and everything.
I never made it through the red tape, I got this paper hat. I got a job working weekdays, you want fries with that."

- Todd Snider

"Put silver wings on my son's chest,
Make him one of America's best"

Ballad of the Green Berets - SSgt Barry Sadler

"We fired our cannon 'til the barrel melted down then we grabbed an alligator and we fought another round"

The Battle of New Orleans - Johnny Horton

Okay, this one may not stay, but for those who get to read may chuckle. Against the rules for the thread, but the entire verse has to count:

Hitler has only got one ball
Goering has two but very small
Himmler, has something sim'lar
But poor old Goebbels has no balls at all.

Colonel Bogey March - lyrics by British school boys during WW2. Colonel Bogey March is more widely known as the Bridge on the River Kwai song.
