What was it? And where did you have it?

I'm still looking for the ultimate Reuben.

Best sandwich I ever remember having was at my great-grandmother's house. She had left over ham (guess from Easter or Christmas, don't remember). On Holsum bread, with mayo, tomato, salt and pepper. The memory is probably better than the sandwich.

I love me some good pastrami. Best pastrami sammich I ever had was Artie's Delicatessen in New York. Reuben comes in second or so. Best I ever had was at Demetris's in So Cal. Served on Marble Rye bread as it should be.

Try the New Yorker at Firehouse subs. Pretty damn good!

And, when I lived in Wrighwood, CA, there was a place called the Sawmill that made absolutely fantastic and unique sammiches.

Pepperoni, salami, Doritos, Jalapeño cheese dip on Honey Wheat with a pickle on the sideade in my kitchen.

And no. I was not high.

Many years ago, close to Storrs, CT, there was The Grinder Shoppe. Made phenomenal lobster grinders and meat ball grinders. Damn, I want one now. These things were about a pound each.

Is it a Reuben and is it on Marble Rye? I've been to a Firehouse once and wasn't impressed. Willing to try again, though.

It's not a true Reuben but it has corned beef. Your choice of white or wheat.

New York Steamer Sub

Corned beef brisket, pastrami, melted
provolone, mustard, mayo, Italian dressing
