Chuck Webb was like Herschel Walker/Bo Jackson good......

Damn shame he had that injury. In today's time he would've played again...

Jamal. You go for 2000 in the league and you're special. If not for Jamal's injuries, Travis Henry isn't on anyone's list.

The most physically gifted I would have to say would either be Lewis or Webb. My personal favorite is Travis Henry.

On a side note the greatest single game performance I've ever seen from a UT RB was Travis Stephens in the 2001 Florida game. He ran like a man possessed that night.

You're right! I thought that game was in 1998 when we won the national championship. I got mixed up. It was the game in 2001 as you just said.

Webb, Lewis, Henry, and Stevens are my favorite as of now but Hurd is slowly becoming my favorite Vol of all time, he's just such BEAST!!!!!

Charlie Garner, Reggie Cobb, Chuck Webb, Johnny Jones, Jay Graham, Aaron Hayden, James Stewart, Jamal Lewis, Travis Henry, Travis Stephens, George Cafego, Johnny Majors, Tony Thompson, Hurd, Kamara, in no particular order.

But no list of great running backs in UT history would be complete without the great Stanley Morgan. Started out as wide receiver and moved to running back when ours were decimated by injury. He still holds the record for all purpose yards, I believe. Over 4000 yards rushing and receiving.

Webb, Lewis, and Stephens all come to mind first. Garner is up there as well.

Best I ever saw in person was Webb's 294 vs Ole Miss in 1989....he was unreal. I think he's the best UT RB I've ever seen.

Travis was certainly great that day vs Florida.

Hurd's name isn't mentioned enough. If he stays healthy this year he will likely finish as our all time leading rusher.

He's just not as good as most of the other greats mentioned IMO. Just hasn't shown as much.

Prototype back was Reggie Cobb. Travis Henry was full throttle power. Jamal Lewis break your ankle moves. Shawn Bryson had speed to burn.

Foster would have had all the records, had he not fumbled so many times, AKA "The Fumbler".


Chuck Webb would be my pick.

KB I believe you're being fair to Hurd. That said this year's OL will be his first that has decent depth and experience and I think both Hurd and Kamara will have big years as a result. But the script will be flipped a little for a player you think highly of in Chubb. He will be running behind an OL that way underperformed last year and likely will have problems this year. Just saying my prediction if they both stay healthy Hurd outperforms Chubb.RBs are usually not a whole lot better than their OLs.

Your right. He consistently gets hit behind the line and still will pick up 6 or 7. His yards after contact has got to be up there.

Travis Stephens, hands down. The amount of heart that guy had was unreal. Man he was fast. I also wish we could've gotten the chance to see lewis play his senior season, but you can't blame him for leaving early. All soon to be replaced by Hurd after next season.

Gene McEver, Beattie Feathers have to be up there.
Also Keith Davis was underrated.
Reggie Cobb before getting kicked off team prior to Alabama game in 1989
Then Chuck Webb went wild.

Can,t forget William Howard , Greg Amsler and Jeff Powell(just for run in sugar bowl)

I was there as well for Webb's game against Ole Miss. That was a lot of fun watching him run for what seemed like days.

If Hurd plays 4 years,leaves as all time rushing yardage and td leader and a couple SEC titles he wears the crown.
