Best RB you have seen play for UT

Yep, JG was a good back but considering his two year starter career at UT and we can really only think of "two" good games that he had really disqualifies him from the list. IMO.

JG's 1995 season alone gets him on the list: 1438 yds rushing, 10 games over 100 yds, 9 straight 100 yard games, 130.7 yds avg....this while Manning was setting the single season record for attempts and completions.

The best nobody has mentioned was Keith Davis. As a freshman back up to Charles Wilson he dazzled in the '85 Auburn game. Between injuries and having to share playing time with the likes of Reggie Cobb, William Howard, and Greg Amsler, he never quite saw the limelight, but I imagine his yards per carry were among the best.

Johnny Jones has not been mentioned much either, probably because many are not old enough to have seen him play. Watched him almost single handedly beat Bama.

Bryce Brown... jk. Idk there's been many great one's but the best performance had to of been Travis Stephens against FLA. Loved seeing him run all over anyone who got in his way.

Late to the thread but Chuck Webb with Lewis not far behind. It just kills me to think we had two backs of that caliber and both ended up with serious knee injuries. After the knee injury Webb never played for the Vols again.

Im going with Webb as well. I really liked Henry too but at times he scared me to death. In the NC game when we were about to go up 2 td's and put the game away he fumbled and gave FSU another chance. But luckily our D stood strong and intercepted Outzen. Think if Hardesty had stayed healthy 4 years he could have been a great one.

Reggie Cobb was always my favorite. He did some things a Tennessee back had never done before him....moves, speed, TDs, flash. Wish he would have not made the mistakes he made to have to sit out those games. He was a great college back. Travis Stevens second....all out all the time and amazing balance and power for a smaller back. Webb was great but not fun to watch, IMO. Straight ahead speed and one cut, like Johnny Jones. Almost never made two moves for short yardage. Garner was great to watch, had some moves and speed. Jay Graham could burn a team on any play. Finishing speed. Jamal Lewis never seemed to get his feet under him for short yardage, stutter-stepped and hesitated too much and looked like he expected the defense to fall down if he hit them-on the big 4th down at the swamp he looked like he was lost...complete hesitation until the defense caught up. He benefitted a lot by his body and fair speed-to-size. Never thought he was a sure thing on short yardage...but he SHOULD have been with his size and ability.

It seemed to me at the time, that Jamaal became hesitant after he suffered that suffered a torn lateral collateral ligament during the 1998 season and didn't play quite the same.

However, according to the stats, Travis Henry is the all time best rusher for UT.

1. Chuck Webb
2. Travis Stephens
3. Jamal Lewis (Freshman year)
4. Greg Amsler (FB I know, but damn he was fun to watch)
5. Johnnie Jones (my first games at UT 83) / Travis Henry

I loved Montario Hardestys attitude and skill. I thought he was great.
