Mine is Chuck Webb, hands down. Young Jamal was good too, not the Jamal with an eye on the NFL. But Webb was the best I have ever seen in the orange and white. The Cobb-Webb backfield was formidable. It's a shame he got hurt and never had a chance to make his name in the NFL.

While Travis Stephens did'nt have the most talent or best speed he's my favorite. He ran with heart every play, you could tell when he ran off tackle and bounced outside....changin gears he was givin it every single RPM he could give. Some of the backs we've had in the last few years seem to take plays off runnin in 2nd gear IMO.

there have been very few backs in football history that had "it", that special almost, sixth sense for seeing the holes before they opened, and with the talent to make use of it. chuck was one of those backs. yes, unfortunately, he got hurt and football fans at large never got to see it. other backs with "it" who played longer and were known, include: tony dorsett, walter payton, barry sanders, and yes, unfortunately, the juice.

even jim brown didn't have "it". he was just such a strong physical specimen with an intense desire to compete, that he overmatched the defensive players who were on the field to stop him.

I really liked Charlie Garner. He only at UT for two years and had to split time with Stewart and Hayden. But, if he ever had the whole show to himself, I think Reggie Bush would have been compared to him.

Travis Stephens as of now, but I could see it being Arian if he comes back next year which he should.

Long list of favorites:

1. Johnny Jones - first 1000 yarder at UT, seemingly came out of nowhere in the 2nd or 3rd game of his junior season.

Also on the list:

Jamal Lewis
Reggie Cobb
Tony Thompson
Chuck Webb
Travis Stephens
Travis Henry
James Stewart
Charlie Garner.

Chuck Webb was easily the best IMO. He had a lot of things that made him great, but he had more speed than any of the better backs UT has had. Jeff Powell was faster, but outside of him, I can't recall anyone with the kind of speed Webb had.

Travis Stephens is my favorite too. I'll never forget his performance against Florida in 2001. I don't know about best I've seen so I'll just answer with my favorite.

I bet Jay Graham was faster.

But I'm with you, Chuck Webb easily. Every time he touched the ball, I knew good things were going to happen. He didn't dance. He hit the hole and then made people miss. Man, he was fun to watch.

I barely remember Chuck Webb.

But damn, I loved Jamal Lewis early in his career.

Travis Henry was also a favorite of mine. He never seemed to get tired. He just kept running and running.

Travis Stephens in 2001 was great too.

I don't know. I really have liked quite a few.

Thats a hard question. I barely remember Webb but I know he was great. I guess my favorite the two Travis' were my favorite, Henry and Stephens. 2001 game was a career maker for Stephens and boy could Henry roll a fatty spliff. :birgits_giggle:
