There is no best player of these. Bray is one dimensional, has a fine arm, but lacks instincts or leadership at crtical times. Hunter, Patterson are good receivers, but nowhere near the best among the nation's best or even the SEC's best. Too many dropped passes between them and can't get separation from tight coverage. Nobody on defense is very good. Down linemen have a mere 2 sacks in 5 games. Very little pressure from our front 3 or 4. Linebackers are adequate at times, but don't think or react very well at other times. Defensive backs are awful. Never expect one of them to make a tackle in open field one on one against an SEC running back. They are slow and anyone can pass on us.
We assign too much blame to the coaches. Even though the coaches haven't demonstrated any success of winning in the SEC, the players consistently don't make the plays necessary to win games like yesterday's GA game. Patterson can't catch a long pass over his head when a sure TD is inevitable. Neal drops a big gainer at a crucial point in the closing minutes. Our players just aren't standouts at any position. I chuckle when I see someone worried we might have someone go pro early. That's hysterical. We don't have ANYONE who could seriously attempt that and haven't in years. Hey, how many Trent Richardsons or Julio Jones types have played for us in recent history?
