Fraternity row(Fiji Island) and up by the rock is very fun too! Parking is free and you can use the restrooms at some friendly fraternity houses...(just pretend to be an alum)!!!
EricVol...just because lambda chi allowed it, doesn't mean the rest of us on row will allow it haha, hope you're enjoying Charleston still

Hello fellow Volunteers... I will be going to the WKU game and was looking for a nice place to tailgate an hangout with fellow Volunteers that won't be a problem for a wheelchair... Any suggestions would be great... Sorry for moving an old thread to the top, I tried to start a new one but it wouldn't let me... Thanks.... GO VOLS!!!

Visiting fan here - will be down for the Ohio game, and was wondering about tailgating lots, as well. I'd like to find a good spot to take in the experience, but not get killed at the same time!

As a fellow out of towner to Knowxville, I've had success on both trips finding a good tailgate location on Neyland Drive along the river - the cement plant on the river or the little narrow park near the tracks across the stret from it. A decent hike to the stadium but mostly flat.

FYI the lot (23 I think) behind the rock and the grass around it may not be available for tailgating this year as construction on a new student health center is slated to begin this fall. They have moved the rock across the street and are closing the roads around the area now. I have no idea when this will start but the "free parking" in that area most likely will be gone.

I'm planning on bringing a keg this year---are there any good places to set that up where the cops won't hassle us?

Keep the keg hidden in your car, keep it in plastic cups, and don't be rowdy and you'll be fine. The cops will have a press release about how they're cracking down this year, like they always do, but as long as you're decent you should be fine.

a keg might bring you some really unwanted attention and tickets. I would avoid it. If you do, hide it well in a SUV or something. As for location, maybe a garage would be better than out in the open. If you can get into g 10 you might pull it off. I don't know how tight the beer patrol will be this season.

Wheres the best place to park for those of us coming from out of town these days? Not going to be tailgating, just bringing the 6 month preg. wife.

might want to go down to the strip and look around, i usually park right off the 287b exit for 5 dollars and just walk up there, but your wife is pregnant and she probably doesnt need to walk up a big ass hill

I have gone to games with people in wheelchairs. There is handicapped parking near Thompson Boling across from Gibbs. Call the Sports Information office and ask and they should be able to help you out. They are generally very helpful to those who are attending in wheelchairs and 1 person to accompany them. They will not let 10 people get hammered around a handicapped van and all get the special seating, but I am guessing that will not be a problem for you.

Anyone have any great spots, with bathrooms near by, decent cost to park, etc., with a reasonable walk to the stadium?

I was kind of hoping for a more detailed response Vol fans.

Good tailgating at UT has a lot to do with what kind of tailgating you want to do, and what pregame activities matter to you. If you have little kids it is nice to be able to park near the Humanities plaza where they set up kid activities like inflatable fun houses etc. It is also an area close to Vol walk. If you know a UT faculty member you can park in that garage and inside it, there is absolutely no hassling from police. Across the street behind the torch, those who park and set up by the museum usually have delicious spreads and lovely conversation. You will not find anyone falling out of their lawn chair, but you will find wealthy alums making mixed drinks to go with their amazing food. It is most like the Grove at Ole Miss of any place I have tailgated. The closest walks are the garages right around the stadium. They are fun but they are the ones the cops will be targeting. Even last season they started to crack down from the old days when one 4 runner would take up 3 spaces for the kegs and the tens and the TVs.

If you want cheap parking and easy in and out, you cannot do better than Ag Campus. They have a bus now but otherwise it is a long walk. The key advantage is afterwards when you are at your car and instead of being stuck for an hour trying to get out, you are on the interstate in 5 minutes.

Another easy in and out option that is fast if you live in a place you can get to through backroads from there is across Chapman Highway. There is tons of free parking over there. It used to be a huge thrill and pleasure to walk the railroad ties on the bridge over the river, looking at the stadium and down at the Vol Navy. You just have to be sure there are not cops on the other side who will ticket you for trespassing. There will never ever be cops on the side opposite the stadium, so if you can get up and on you are good to go.

If you do not want to get drunk and you want some nice company in a relaxed atmosphere, the houses of the various religious groups by Presidential courtyard have good parking. If you can get straight down the road and out to Neyland they have pretty good exit time also.

I personally have never tailgated on the law school area. It seems pretty close and it is definitely 1 million times nicer than it was.

A favorite free place of mine for a while that I used during school (when your parking pass cost a ton and they sold more than they had spaces) was right next to the baseball field. That strip of land there was not UT property according to the UT cop who did not give me a parking ticket when I had my old Suburban there. I used it for years.

Closer in than the ag center parking and a much shorter walk off Neyland drive to the stadium is the womens soccer area. I have no idea if parking nazis are there on gameday, but there is tons of space available.

Visitors enjoy your time in Knoxville! The people are friendly (especially to teams we feel confident in beating) and your tailgating experience should compare favorably to almost all of the SEC schools and very favorably to ACC, Big East experiences.

Thanks for the advice (MikeHamiltonFan)... No problem with the 10 people getting hammered an wanting to all sit in special seating... Not wanting to get hammered, just have a good time with fellow Volunteers... I will be going with my wife, my mother in law and my parents... But I have my handicap and 1 person to accompany me ticket and the others are sitting in regular seating at a different section... It will be my wife and mother in laws first game and my second game attending... The first time I was there we parked by a railroad track and no one was tailgating, don't know if I was just to late getting to the game or if it was just a bad spot to park for tailgating...lol!

Well for several years now there have been about 20 or 30 of us parking at the mellow mushroom. They sold us parking spots for the entire season but this year they refuse to do that because of the cops. so I need to find a place were we can all meet up put up tents grills and open some beer any ideas.

After about 9 beers, my bathroom is usually on the museum. The UT pigs haven't found me yet!

I noticed that a lot of you mention to get there early for a good tailgating spot. I am bringing my family up to the Auburn game and want them to have the whole experience. I know the game does not start until 7:45 but if I wanted a good tailgating spot what time would we need to arrive? Any info would be appreciated. Go Vols!

I would recommend parking at the Civic Coliseum for $5 and ride the bus $3 each. They drop you off at Cumberland and Phillip Fulmer Way. Walk a couple of hundred yards and you are at the stadium.

Then ride the bus back to the coliseum.

Me and my wife did this last week and I think it is the way to go now.

we always go to the Fort Sanders Hospital parking garage , they will allow grills and tents on the top level. Park close to the elevators and you can ride them down to the porta jons. it is $20 and if you are used to walking to the stadium from MM then it would be about the same walk.:toast::td:

Vol Navy has to be a hoot. May try that this year.

When I came down to the Wyoming game last year I thought it would be great to see the Vol Navy as well! We tried to set up our tailgate in the small lot across the street from the Boathouse and came to find out the lot was only for contributors! We set up alongside the lot on the grass but had to move our car back up the hill to our hotel. . .bummer! Still had fun though! :eek:k:

How do you get to park on campus for tailgating? Someone told me that it is reserved only for very wealthy boosters.
