For me Elidio's in N. Knox. Great crust, sauce and the topping are fresh. The only place I eat large thin crust by myself..

Barley's is my personal favorite.

Stefano's is really good imo. It's also closer to the stadium.

Tomato Head is good too but it wouldn't be a must eat place for me.

Two places you have to go in Knoxville: The Pizza Hut on Broadway for the lunch buffet and Litton's across from the duck pond in Fountain City.

Anything else and you're just wasting your time.
The PH on Broadway has been closed for over a year. Not to mention it is a Pizza Hut! Fail.

I have made it my mission to find the best pizza in Knoxville/ORidge/Maryville. I have eaten them all, thin and thick. The best pizza in Knoxville is at Calhouns on Bearden Hill. Crust, toppings, and sauce are all spectacular and unique. They have half price pizzas on Tuesdays ($9.99 for the Bakers Choice). The only possible drawback is that they are greasy and NY style but that is my preference anyways.

The All Star level (though not elite) are: Harby's, Hard Knox, and Mellow Mushroom if you get a good one.

I would call the Palace and Big Ed's "fan favorites"; the others are mostly passable and would do in a pinch... Tomato Head is vastly overrated due to the hippy factor.

The worst pizza is Louis' and that place across from Kroger at the Northshore/Pellissippi junction.

Calhoun's doesn't even have the best BBQ in town so I'm stunned to hear someone say they have the best pizza.

You should definitely give Calhoun's pizza a try, but only go to the Bearden Hill location for pizza.

1/2 price Tuesday's is one of the best deals in town.

Their pizza is better than their BBQ.

Outstanding burgers too.

And if you like a good draft beer, 1/2 price drafts in the bar Mon-Fri til 9 or 10 (can't remember - haven't been since my son was born).

Haven't been to Pizza Palace or Harby's yet. On the list to do. (Or Chandler's....I moved to N. Knox and have yet to have the staple foods other than Senior Tacos.)

I enjoy the pizza from the brewery, but it's just tasty, not necessarily a great pizza. Calhoun's is in the same category. Not bad for dinner, but if I'm out looking for pizza, I don't go there.

Stefano's is good, but I don't really go unless it's because someone else wanted to.

Big Ed's is good, but I won't drive out there.

Love Little Joe's. I'm a fan of thin crust.

If you're into non-traditional pizza, Tomato Head makes an awesome pizza with pesto and smoked salmon. Yum.

I always forget about Roman's but it's really good and the people who work there are pretty interesting.

I agree...Knoxvillians wouldn't know good food if it hit them in the face it seems. How the hell does Pueleos continue to fill their restaurant, its TERRIBLE. How has Calhouns survived, its TERRIBLE. Peerless?! OMG, the steak I had there was flavorless, and the 'fancy' snails they served was SO floating in butter because the chef had no clue how to cook them.

Sometimes I'm suprised at what restaurants survive in Knoxville, and which ones die.

(I'm a food snob, granted.)

I just looked up "pompous ass" on wikipedia, it referred me back to your post.
