Long before UT was known as WR U or more recently DT U, it was LB U. There have been some great ones. I will list the all SEC ones starting with 1965 (when I started following UT football).
1965 Frank Emanuel
1966 Paul Naumaff
1968 Steve Kiner
1969 Steve Kiner, Jack Reynolds
1971 Jackie Walker, Ray Nettles
1972 Jamie Rotella
1975 Andy Spiva
1976 Andy Spiva
1979 Craig Puki
1985 Dale Jones
1986 Dale Jones
1988 Keith DeLong
1997 Al Wilson
1999 Raynoch Thompson
2000 Eric Westmoreland
2007 Jerod Mayo

As for me, Al Wilson is the best, Dales Jones played hard, Jerod Mayo is fast becoming one of my all time favorites! Kevin Simon would have been one of the greatest if not for all his injuries.

Al Wilson and Eric Westmoreland are my favorites.

I've had the opportunity to meet Dale Jones, I never got to see him play however (I'm only 22)

Kelly Zeigler was one of my coaches in high school, so I have to mention him.

McCoy will be on the list by the time he is done.

The best LB to play at UT was hands down Al Wilson. In a summer highschool passing league, I had to try and cover him. Man was he quick. I also remember how many big hits he had as a freshman at UT on special teams. He was also the most intimidating looking linebacker that has ever wore pads. He looked so big all suited up.

I think Mayo could be mentioned depending on what he does next season. Wilson is still my favorite because he seemed to will the team to win in 98. His performance in the UF game was amazing.

Well, Im older and Wilson and Westmoreland are my favorites also, Delong would be in the top 3. Really, you think that much of McCoy, wow, interesting.

His attitude and maturity impress me just as much as his talent.

And Wilson played outside backer before he moved to the middle, great speed and size.

I have never really heard anyone refer to us as LB U. When I think of LB U, I think of PSU and The U, but not UT.

Yes a year of Leorard Little experiment at middle linebacker, what a waste, he was so lost all year.

Who do you like between McCoy, and Mayo?

I think they are both going to be remembered in a good light.

Mayo and McCoy both command respect when they walk in a room without saying anything. Everybody just seems to look up to them.

Mayo is a prototype for a LB. He's 230 and quick. He'll probably have a better pro career.

McCoy is just so damn quick though. He's a little undersized but there are times when he's unblockable. He just needs to not freelance so much and play his reads.

I think Mayo is better than him right now. But when both of them are gone, McCoy might have produced more highlight moments.

Al Wilson is tops with Dale Jones a close second. I also really liked Raynoch, Delong, and Kevin Burnett. Hacksaw is a great story but I have only seen highlights. Mayo has a shot to be one of the all time greats.

Wilson is my all-time favorite.

Amazing that a 45 year-old man could play the way he did (well...he looked like he was 45!)
