VolNation,

We will be in Las Vegas for a business trip and will be trying to find a place to catch SEC Network and a few drinks and watch Appy State. A couple of the Tennessee Fans who will be there too will be looking for a place with perhaps some wagering and some drinking.

I thought i would ask VolNation for a recommendation around the Vegas Strip.

thoughts?

I have a recommendation - Take out the equivalent of all the money you are spending on the trip - hotel / flight / food / gambling budget and put it on the Vols to cover 20 point spread. Free trip buddy. Butch Jones is 3-0 in covering the spread in the opener, that trend continues.

Edit: not sure if they have TVs at the Hard Rock, but got a good lunch deal called the 777 special (have to order off the menu) at Mr. Luckys, Steak and Shrimp combo for $7.77.

I own a condo and lived in Vegas up until this year. Still have the condo and show up there 3 or 4 times a year now. Prior to that LA for 17 years. My recommendation in Vegas to watch Vol football is go to one of the casinos off strip and hang at their sports book location. Sunset Station casino in Henderson is a good spot, seems like I always run into Vol fans there on a budget when a game is on. Of course you can never go wrong hanging at one of the old strip casinos and their sports book locations downtown around Fremont. I recommend Golden Nugget. On the Strip any of the big casinos have decent sports books and you get the whole Strip experience and costs with it, but Ballys or Tropicana will get you an old school feel if you like that. Enjoy, the #s are what they are if you want to lay down a bet no matter where you go for the most part as everybody rolls up to one of 3 or 4 handicappers. Enjoy!

Any sports book would be your best bet IMO. I have spent most of my time at the one in MGM and have always had a great time watching football. Not sure if this stands true on a Thursday at 4:30 though. Good luck and enjoy Vegas! Go Vols!!

Vegas native here: I tried to get a Vols bar started for years, no luck. Best Bet- go to the sports book at a big casino. If you place a bet, OR, just sit near a machine, you'll drink for free all night on the casino's dime. Enjoy the blowout.

If you are going to wager on the game, definitely go to a sports book for a free drink coupon they'll give you when you make the bet. If you want it loud and boisterous, Bellagio. If you want quiet and off the strip, try the Hilton.

Venetian sports book is a good option. They have giant screens, and since there arent too many games on that night, it should be featured on the big screens. Next door there is a CVS, and you can load up on tall boys or snacks or whatever. On the other side, there is Lagasse's stadium which is a ridiculous sports bar/sports book and that would be good for some food.

Really, any sports book on the strip will be a good option. MGM is decent, and they have a sports bar right next to it with good food and lots of screens. They actually ask you what game you care about when you come in, and they sit you so you can see it well.

I'd watch it in the MGM sports book and while you're there you can place your prop bet on UT winning the east, SEC, and Natty. I was there last year for the triple crown when American Pharoah won. The place was crazy. If you're looking low-key this isn't your spot.

The Hilton is now called Westgate Las Vegas Hotel. Historically, it's been the best sports book in Vegas.

it's always a free trip for me, I am traveling on corporate money, spending zero dollars of my own, and that's exactly how much I will bet on a 20+ point spread. Too many young men, too early in the season to put big money down on such a huge spread IMHO.

My friends are staying in the MGM, i guess we'll give that a shot, thanks for the advice VolNation, you never fail..

Try Lagasse's Stadium in the Palazzo (it's downstairs). It has a sportsbook but it is much better viewing than anywhere else and they serve good food with great service and stadium seating with very comfortable leather couches and seats.

I really miss the ESPN Zone at NY NY by the way.

Vegas local also- if you're solely focused on the sports book/Game go to the Westgate resort hotel and casino. They have the biggest sports book not only in Vegas, but in the world and I believe they have 4K screens. If you care more than just about the bets/game (slots, food, etc) then I'd go somewhere else.

Hope this helps.

Edit: Also, WG is what ESPN uses for the lines they broadcast on their segments. Listen carefully next time and you'll see!
