1990 #1 recruit in the state Jeremy Spivey. Another BA product. Jeremy fought injuries but he was a great linebacker. He could hit!

There are 2 more that haven't been mentioned:
Stockton Atkins-Blocking back- Union City, Tn.
Johnny Boynton-Def.End-Pikeville, Tenn.
Both very good players in the old days.

A bit before my time. Anything about him specifically that you remember?

Young High School. At UT, I had classes with him, Richmond, and Bubba, who happened to be a fraternity brother. Richard was sort of low-key, but, a baller. He was tough as nails and would steam-roll your a-- in a heart beat....

That name jarred me to remember LB Andy Spivey. I can't find one thing about Andy other than Gaulden receiving the Andy Spivey defensive player award. Andy was a beast back in the day (when I was in grade school) and I think he was from Tennessee. Maybe this is his son. Andy died in a automobile accident in 1978 while with the Falcons.

WR - Thomas 'TD' Woods - Gallatin. held some UT receiving records in the 80s I believe. Had a brother play RB at Vandy.

I played slot/flanker at Cookeville and he coached us for a year. Was a great guy and good coach. It was an honor to have him there

I agree. They remind me of each other as well. Cleveland played QB in HS.

Bruce Wilkerson was a pretty good player at UT from Loudon.

I know I chased his little butt all over the field one night. You talking about quick. He was like a ghost.

Andy Spiva. Born in Chattanooga but played HS in the Atlanta area. Two time All SEC LB.

Congrats on your first post after all these years. Post more often.

I always enjoy threads like this and appreciate everyone's contributions. I've read a lot of names I haven't thought of in a long time.

Excerpt from Marvin West's Legends of the Tennessee Vols

On (Doug) Dickey's first day of employment, (Jim) McDonald went along on a recruiting mission to see Bob Johnson and John Boynton.

Dickey remembers buying Bob a hamburger in Cleveland and "getting on a boat" to go visit John. He was talking about Blythe Ferry, a short cut to Pikeville.

McDonald helped keep those two linemen pointed toward Knoxville. Both were imposing prospects, tall and powerful. Dickey wondered how many like that were running loose in Tennessee and how a coach could lose with such in-state talent. That first recruiting class, which included Charley Fulton, was the foundation of the Tennessee turnaround.

Might have missed it in here but Eddie Brown who was a safety back in the 70's. From South Pittsburg I believe.

Jasper I think.

ROLL Call from Sequatchie Valley,

Eddie Brown(Marion County)
Eric Westmoreland(Marion County)
Eddie Moore(South Pitt)
John Boynton(Bledsoe County)
Houston Thomas(Bledsoe County) walk-on but perhaps the greatest kick-off coverage man of them all.

Jimmy Glover - Safety from Macon County (Lafayette)

He played before my time, but my Dad always talked about him returning an interception for a TD in the '68 Orange Bowl against Oklahoma. He's a local legend in my hometown, anyway.
