Best Group of Pass-Catchers Ever?

2013 Broncos. First team ever with 4 different WRs catching 10 TDs if I am not mistaken. As a total group I don't really think it's close. Dallas had some good groups Irvin, Harper, Novacek, Johnston and Smith.

I agree. I just had to include the Titans group because I was surprised nobody jokingly included them. Although that wasn't a very bad group.

Stokes was ok, good for 500-700 for a few years. By the time TO broke out, Rice was on the "downside" of his career. Only had around 800 T.O.s breakout year. I say "downside" cause after he left.S.F. he had 2 more 1100 plus seasons.

Looks like they both went for 1000 while Stokes went for almost 800 and 8 TDs. Pretty damn good, especially for mid 1990s.

Just went off memory after looking at stats though...I was more thinking when T.O. started dominating, but your right stat wise. T.O. wasn't T.O. yet and Rice was declining though.

82 Cowboys

I loved Butch Johnson's end zone dance

you can also throw Preston Pearson, Drew Hill and Golden Richards somewhere @ '82. Those were and always will be my teams. As a 12 yr old, the only tv I would watch the entire week, and run outside on timeouts, between quarters, halftime and after the game either being Tony Dorsett or Drew Pearson

I hear ya Sparty. I was 10. My most memorable football year as a kid.
I was allowed to stay up until halftime of MNF to watch Cosell call "the greatest plays of the day"

Best pass catchers? None of them have great hands. Its absurd to even mention this group. These aren't making incredible catches and they aren't wide open except in the flat. They are being thrown open. Its amazing how blind people can be. Thomas is an excellent talent. Welker is a nice short guy but there is nothing remotely special about Julius thomas or Decker. The titans have better talent at WR.

Good grief. I don't even know where to start. If Manning were on 15 other teams in the league, they'd be in the Super Bowl and the OP would be making the same thread about that team.

No doubt. Decker is an also ran on just about any other team. Demarius has the talent but Peyton made him a star. Likewise for Julius.

Welker is the only guy that came in as a top receiver.

Moreno a great pass catcher?

Hell, give Manning Colston, Meachem, Graham, Sproles and whoever else the Saints have and he'd have set the same or higher records.

This. Hard to fathom someone actually believes that foolishness.

While they are not the greatest group ever, pretending like the are not any good without PM is foolish. Yes he improves them and their stats, but most people knew Decker and DT were talented already. Decker had 600 yds and 8 tds in 11 starts, while DT had 550-4 in 11 games/5 starts...while catching passes from Tebow pre Manning. DT also led the NFL in yac this year with 718, was second last year with 663. Dudes a beast.

This x1000. One of more ridiculous Volnation suggestions which is saying something.

The group had several "hit them in the numbers" drops in the AFC Championship game. The drop in the endzone late could have piled real pressure on Denver. "Omaha, Omaha, Sally" gets them open and throws them open as you said.

And anyone not saying Joe Montana's supporting cast was the best ever is, well, just wrong.

I've always felt this is one of the biggest slights to Manning's ability. Sure his receivers have talent but he puts them in position to make plays and the throws get to the correct spot more times than not. Does a practice squad TE make the Pro Bowl without PM? How many young receivers learned the NFL game from day 1 with PM as their signal caller? IMO what he requires from his receivers makes them much that much better. Only a handful of QBs have that

This is absurd. Maybe they don't have the best hands, but you're making it into a semantic argument.

Decker had 8 TDs with Tebow throwing to him. I've said it in jest in the past, but it really does seem apparent that people downgrade him for his skin color. He's big, strong, fast, and runs great routes. He is not the most sure-handed, but he makes amazing plays.

Decker is a solid #2. I would imagine someone will over pay for him in free agency

Yep, under Manning Austin Collie was a 60/600/7 receiver. I'm pretty sure Peyton could find a way to get Stephen Hawking some catches.
