Decent assessment imo, for both UT and UK. UT really has a great chance to take control, not just this year but the next few.

UK will have a bad defense. Last year it was supposed to be good, but still gave up over 30+ a game. We lose some good players, and recruited decent. But a lot of young, unproven guys have to step up. The offense will be our calling card. Towles has the skills to be one of the best in the sec, but only if his WRs grow up. RB is a strength. Not one standout, but 3, maybe 4 guys who will get touches throughout.

UT is solid. Best case they win sneak into the playoff. Worst case they win 8 games and are poised to be contenders next year. Either way the Vols are moving up. So many talented weapons on offense. I do wonder how Dobbs will do at first, but UT is such a good team overall I doubt it'll be an issue. The defense will be top notch regardless.

I think our schedule is actually favorable compared to years past. Most everything else I agree, at least to the point where each has been a concern or a positive by people here.

Yep. Our schedule is brutal every year. This year is slightly less brutal than average. We need to take advantage.

The QB of the defense will be Brian Randolph, not a first year MLB.

The QB of the defense is typically the Mike who is in a good spot to read the offense and relay the defensive assignments. If the starting MLB isn't ready to take on that roll, it will go to Maggitt. He's a hybrid player who is a leader for this defense. Ideally, by the season's end, Kirkland will be calling the shots.

You'd be surprised who relays assignments on teams. It's always the player who is more intelligent out of the free safety or linebacker. Usually the FS calls the shots in coverage and the Mike calls the shots in the front seven. If Brian Randolph is the most knowledgable player on D, he will make the assignments for the whole D. He's got the best vantage point also.

A lot of teams make the FS the QB of the defense. Being stuck on normal is how teams lose ball games these days.

Hell , That assessment could be any team in College Football. I can say my daughter will either beat me in Tic Tac Toe or she won't but she'll eventually get better. Journalism at it's best. Go Vols!

Agree that Randolf will likely get the secondary on the same page. But I don't see him lining up the 'whole D'. The defensive line isn't going to be looking behind them for their assignments. They'll get that from the MLB or someone upfront who knows the assignments like Maggitt.

Best case we beat fla, ga, mizz, and bama.

Hopefully we are no worse that 2 n 2 against those 4.

Best and Worst are the same:

We lose to Bama then go to the SECCG, play Bama and beat them!

Get left out of the top 4 because we played them twice!!

TCU, OSU, CLEMSON, OREGON are in the College playoffs!

Good, Bad AND UGLY!

Best Case: Dobbs and the two-headed monster in the backfield lead the SEC in rushing, and lead the vols to a 10-2 record and get to SEC title game. Lose against winner of the west and go to a major bowl.

Worst Case: O-line development and youth keep them from winning the division, go 8-4. Head to another bowl game.

We really should have a fantastic offense. Hurd and Kamara should run for 1,700-1,800 yards total. Dobbs will add another 600 or so, giving us about 2350 total just from those three. Our other RBs, WRs, and backup QBs should add another 400. We should, then, be near 2800 rushing yards.

Dobbs, with a full season, should be near 3,200 passing yards. That, with no backup QB production, puts us at 6,000 total offensive yards. Compared to the 4,800 last year, it will feel pretty good.

Add a top 2 SEC D-line, a top 3-4 SEC defensive backfield, and a very deep and solid LB core, and we should have a great shot at winning 9 games, and very well could hit 10.

My 11 year old could have written that article. Who knew everybody besides UK and Candy could win the SEC in a "best case" scenario?

The article further down the page about JRM was much better.
