For me, this is how this year is salvageable. Not a win, but can help our boys retain some dignity and build for next year:
No more injuries.
No more transfers, quitters, or dismissals.
Win out.
Win the bowl.
Those will go along way in just maintaining morale for the team. I would hope it would help with recruiting too. 9-3 possibly 10-3 is still a possibility and something shows improvement regardless of the circumstances.
From a coaching standpoint:
I have rode the DeBord train as long as I can stand. The guy is not SEC OC quality. He got to go. Seems like a nice man, seems like he is good to the boys, and seems like he cares, but he is out of touch and there is no way this is the same system Butch ran under Bajakian. Just don't it. But, I could be wrong. And can we hire a freakin' QB coach?! I mean really, this is ridiculous!
Mahoney has been terrible since he got to UT. No player development, regression throughout every season, the dude is just a sorry OL coach. I've wanted him gone for a while. Hate to throw anyone person under the bus, but we have playmakers at the skill positions. The offensive scheme, while I am definitely not a fan, CANNOT function with bad OL play. Need a new OL coach two years ago.
I think Thigpen has been exposed this year. He either isn't developing or his evaluation in the recruiting process is lacking. Don't want him gone, but want a fire set under his butt.
S&C needs to be completely revamped. Something ain't, it ain't been right for going on three years now. Make a change. It's about protecting the players, not your buddy's job.
Finally, recruiting:
We have to land Trey Smith. Sell him on early PT, sell him on a new OL coach, sell him on a new car. Don't care how you sell him, but do it.
Need to land Gibbs and Wade. The secondary is pitiful right now. I know we're hurt, but it seems like we just don't have the bodies to play back there. Need some solid young guys to develop.
We MUST hold onto who we have especially at RB, secondary, and DL. Give me all the DTs.
Tell Cade Mays to turn up the heat on everyone on his list to an unbearable level.
Alright. I think I am done. I have definitely been a sunshine pumper and I probably won't mean half of this by the time we win out and play in a New Years 6 bowl and own whoever we play from the Big 10, but I really needed to vent. Y'all have a good day and go Vols.
