Best Available Job

With CBP appearing to be on the way out, how does the opportunity at Tennessee stack up against the other available jobs this offseason.

Take into account the NCAA cloud, facilities, tradition, financial resources, conference, returning roster and any other criteria you deem relevant.
Yea but who's going to want to come and work with Hamilton? He might stick a knife in your back!!!
The major players besides Tennessee for a coach are Arkansas, Georgia Tech, NC State, Oklahoma, Utah, Texas Tech, Providence among others...with the list likely expanding in the next week or so.

My opinion is that Tennessee has a strong argument for the best open position, but I'm biased.

Word is that TTech is after billy G hard, so I'll take that one off the list. Pitino looks like he's seriously considering retirement, so Louisville would shoot straight to the top of the list. GT and NC State, Ark would be my picks over TN for tradition. However, an SEC program would be more attractive than an ACC program because of the ability to win early. TN has made good progress under Pearl in recruiting so the groundwork has been laid. Assuming the school doesn't get hammered with sanctions, I would say UT is the most attractive job at this point.

One thing is for sure: UT has the "location" advantage over GT and Arkansas. Why would the ghetto or BFE be attractive to an up-and-comer coach?

Isn't NC State the most recent National Champion on the list?

GT then UT. At Tech, you literally drive 20 miles in any direction to recruit and you're done.

NC State is the best available job. They won 2 championships, were the best team in the ACC before the mid 80's. Coach K won't be around more than 5-10 more years, then Duke will experience a downward spiral. Imagine where NC State would be right now if Calipari decided to coach there instead of UK.

NC State is about to hire a great coach, I guarantee it. They are a coach away from being a top 15 program. They have struck out on their last 4 or 5, so this time they are not going to mess up, means way too much for their fans. Finally, NC State has the best facilities in the country out of the schools looking for coaches. RBC Center is state of the art.

GT third on that list. GT is not what they use to be, their facilities are medicore, although their recruiting base is the best. Don't think they can pay as much as UT or NC State either. Rumors are that GT is looking at Mark Price, or Cremmins to coach and Mark Price to replace him after a few years.

This is news to me. RBC isn't even on their campus if I'm not mistaken, it also houses the Carolina Hurricanes so the Wolfpack don't even have total access to it. I'm not sure what their practice facility is like, but Pratt is brand new. TBA may look like crap on the outside, but since the renovation it is pretty nice inside. And I'm pretty sure there is another phase coming soon.

Couldn't you have said the same thing last time?

agreed. Or their last 4 hires.

Not sure how being the third trick pony in the tri cities is more attractive than GT, Arky, or UT.. maybe even OU.

Herb was sure in a hurry to get to the Sun Devils.

I would say Ark. Good facilities, some tradition, good recruiting base in Memphis, and the west is weak. Have one good recruiting class and could win the west easy. Tenn is up there. We just don't know how hard the NCAA is going to come down on us.

Are the jackets building a new arena, or just upgrading again?

will they be able to pay a new coach and Hewitt at the same time?

We have THE worst basketball fans in America. We have a great coach and pushed him out cuz we cant handle a mediocre season with a first round exit. The worst by far.
