Best and worst moments at a UT Vandy Game

I seldom ever open threads, but Vandy week means a little more if you live in the Nashville area amongst them. I am not sure the folks in East Tennessee realize the importance of winning this game. I can tell you Vanderbilt fans despise anything orange. With that said, I would like to hear some of your experiences in Vandyland.

My favorite moment was my first game at Dudley Field. 1978 - Tennessee beat them 41-15 . Alan Duncan kicked the final extra point right into the hand placed Vanderbilt letters on the scoreboard. Most of the letters ended up in the bleachers.

My worst moment by far was when Aaron Hayden broke his leg. I suppose it would have been 1994, but I am not certain. From our viewpoint it was obvious when it happened. It was pretty ugly looking, you could see his leg give way. Not one, not two or three, but the entire section of Vanderbilt fans around us were standing and cheering it. I used to feel sorry for their true fans in a way, but all that went away on one play.

Go VOLS. Beat Vandy... badly.

The 98' game in Nashville for me. The entire stadium was orange and when the Vandy band started the V-A-N-D-Y chant it turned into a V-O-L-S chant.

Watching Travis Henry lay lifeless on the rug of Neyland was a pretty scary moment.

Worst moment would be 2005 game. The dorks in Nashville are still wearing those T-shirts. We actually lost to Vandy...

My favorite is watching on tv, year (I forget), & their was orange all around the stadium w/ a few pocket of black & gold.:eek:lol:

One of the best was being on the field at the end of the game in 85 when we, the POTSB, came onto the field for the presentation of the SEC trophy and the offical invite to the Sugar Bowl. We were all in formation and fans were running all over the place around us. I remember seeing my roommates pass me by.

So few 'worse' its hard to remember. Maybe in 75 losing to a Fred Pancoast team in Knoxville. That was Battle's last game.

Best: Being second row right in front of Wes Brown's pick six last year, sent chills up my back as the stadium erupted

Yes, it was. His mother used to stay at the same hotel every week. She was a single mother who had to save her money to come up from Florida to see him play. But, she was there like clockwork. I still remember seeing her go out there on the field. I don't recall ever seeing that before.

I HATE:machgun: VANDY FANS!!! They actually try and argue with me and compare wins/ losses and I just usually walk away and laugh.

I will always remember 1978. Dudley Field should have been called dud field. The win was great. Vandy, with all their huge expensive medical facilities had a men's bathroom located behind a shower curtain, where we had to p on the wall. Nashville is the State Capital, isn't it? They did renovate it a few yrs later. I love Nashville. Lived there many yrs. Most vandy fans there hate anything about the O & W. I hope Tyler Bray has a career day!!

Wes Brown's pick 6 last year. He would not be denied. I was sitting 5 rows behind the Vandy bench and we were giving them hell all game. It was great.

I live in Nashville and have for many years now (after Knoxville). I love Nashville, but the Vandy people are just garbage.

I love every other year when their stadium is completely orange and we are beating their brains in.

Best - 1998, DB (Goodrich, perhaps) picks up the Vandy player and tombstones him.

Worst - The helmet throw after the loss in Neyland. Forget the year.

I feel ya brother. Didn't you especially love how after the 2005 season, and their first win over UT since the mesozoic era, 104.5 played Joe Fisher's call of that final Cutler touchdown during EVERY freakin commercial break? "THE STREAK IS OVER, THE STREAK IS OVER!"

Yeah, that soundbite went away real fast.

Remember playing Vandy in the early 90's, cant remember what year, and came up with a huge hit on the QB. It was one of the best feelings in the world.

Worst was by far in 05 being there watching the team lose. Had tears in my eyes for what felt like a week.

this starts out a little odd but is a Vanderbilt story

when Tennessee played Florida 2 years ago I was on my honeymoon. I did not watch the game, but taped it. My wife led my through the airport so that I could keep my head down and not even have a chance of catching the score on TV. After finding my seat a woman asked what she was doing. I told her that I had taped the game and was going to watch it when I got home. Her response was "oh Tennessee lost" then told me the score. Followed by "and I am a Vanderbilt fan. I love watching Tennessee fans struggle."

So I think of her everytime they loose.

P.S. I hate Vanderbilt
