Besides Neyland

Michigan is great....hard to believe they built something that big...in the ground!
I am a Christian and the ND campus is beautiful...but, there's just something creepy
about touchdown Jesus looking at the FB field!!! jm!
LP Field in Nash. is a great place for a FB game...yes, Vandy and TN played there a few yrs ago....I don't remember the yr., after all beating Vandy is not a memorable occasion...usuallly.
The old Soldier field in Chicago..early 80's...run down...but, just was a magic place! Yes, it's not a college vinue.

However, there is and never will be a place like Rocky Top/Neyland. I'm like some of the other posters.....when I get off I40 and hit the strip...I begin to tingle, heart kicks it up and I get a boner from years and years of memories!!!

I know. I don't think one can fully grasp how great that school is until they have been there.

My dad is a Dawg fan and he didn't get it at first. I grew up around him watching the games and hearing Larry Munson. I have never actually been to a Georgia game at home though. I've been to Sanford but it was just while visiting Athens. I used to watch Georgia because that is what dad does, but I would also watch Tennessee when it was just me. I have always liked the checkerboard endzone and the colors but I never knew much about the team.

So then I went to my first game. The next thing I know, I am buying a ticket to the LSU game, then the USC game, then the Vandy game because I couldn't get enough. Then I started here on VN so I could learn about Tennessee Football. And now I am telling you all this and I never thought I would because I never thought I would love something this much.

I know you and I joke around DJ, but I love being here and I am glad I can do it with this group. You are a good bunch and you make my day better (most of the time). I know I am new but I plan on being here for a long time. I'll earn my stripes.

pffft... Like I joke. I'm always as serious as a heart attack

Wisconsin is a great place to see a game. I went with a buddy who went to school there at the time. Got to sit in the student section and it was pretty awesome. Camp Randall is also the oldest stadium in the Big 10. Lots of tradition in that place.

Does michigan get pretty loud?

I have heard wisconsin is a great venue too. Doesn't the crowd just jump up and down during pregame or the whole game?

I think Neyland has lost some of its magic the last 5 years or so. I was actually bored at the uga game last year. From 1990-2005...neyland was awesome. I have been to ark vandy aub uga uf and the georgia dome. Uga has by far the best chants. Tenn really needs something to chant when the ball is kicked off. Otherwise...I also loved uf's, aub and uga's atmosphere.

Agree, loved Neyland in the '80s and have to admit the intensity really racheted up in the '90s. Night games were particularly intense. The running through the T at a big night game is second to none. Remember the hairs on my arm standing up from all the static electricity.

But we do need one or two cool chants. Rocky Top is good but we need a cool chant.

uf and uga atmospheres are also good - especially when we win. :)

I've heard that they still have wooden bleachers. What are some of there little pregame or in game traditions. I always hear about touchdown jesus, I am not sure if that is a saying or if it has more to it.

"Touchdown Jesus" is the very informal name for a mural on a building that overlooks the stadium. It shows Christ raising His arms in a gesture that looks remarkably like a zebra signalling a TD.

Too lazy to upload an image. :)

SIAP --I looked for a reply, but there might have been one by one of my many Ignorees. :peace2:

Went to the UT vs uga game in 2006. The stadium was alright and we won so I had a good time, but the uga fans are really really rough. We had stuff thrown at us basically the whole time we were there. Also my sister graduated from GT so I got to catch a couple games there, nice stadium. I have to say, the fans there stay pretty calm and respectful to visiting fans. However i have seen it get a little boring for that same reason.

So when you score, are you praising Jesus, or is Jesus praising your touchdown?

I've heard their fans like to sneak up behind opposing fans and bark at them.... True? If so, I imagine many go home with black eyes.

They threw stuff at this past game as well. Even hit their own fans.

I can vouch for that, got in a good scrap after I believe the '88 game down there. Owe my life to my old fellow HS football team mate who is a UGA grad. He pulled me out of the fray and got me out of harms way before a swarm of red tore me apart. We may have lost the game but at least that fan was feeling Smokey for a few days.

In general the UGA fans are fairly obnoxious but they are not over the top. Really cool town and great tailgating.
