Berry's Thoughts on Playing Offense

Can Eric Berry throw the ball? I'm sure he played QB in high school didn't he ?

He threw it some but as I pointed out earlier there wasn't a single D-1 school in the country that even considered recruiting him as a QB and for good reason. The guy isn't a D-1 QB.

Now if you want to say "Neither is Crompton" then you do have a point at least. Trying to turn a DB into a QB isn't going to win us many games. We need a REAL QB before we start worrying about what cute little packages to throw at various athletes.

as long as Phil is at the helm, you can forget Berry at QB. For some reason, Phil is personally indebted to Crompton at QB, and I guarantee you he will start against Northern Illinois this weekend.

Berry would have been better off to go elsewhere. He is probably figuring that out right now.

Why? He is considered one of the top 3 safties in the county. How would he better off? From a wins and losses standpoint, ok I can see that but nothing else.

It looks like Berry knows there is a lack of talent on the Off. side of the ball so he should go over and help out hell lets get him to run QB.

I'm positive that Berry could hand the ball off and probably come way closer than to completing a pass than Crompton. Berry could become a double legend. He has already achieved legend status as a DB.

No, he hasn't. As another poseter pointed out, he still finds himself out of position too often in pass coverages.
He has a long way to go before he is a legend at anything

I love Eric Berry and I know he would be could at qb, but if he gets injured, our best player on defense is gone. But If Gerald Jones get injured, it wouldnt be hard to replace him (no disrespect to Jones, as he is a great player)

right now I do. He says "I could learn it" not that "I know it and I'm ready". Not a great idea to throw out a guy who knows only a small part of the offense (then again they're doing it to Crompton so maybe I'm wrong)

They could just line him up in the back field and let him run the ball like Percy Harvin does 1-2 plays a game.

Not a whole lot to learn on that one...

Not to mention, if we do it from the "gerry-berry" formation, with GJ at QB, you can do a lot of stuff with misdirection, and the defense has a hard time knowing who to cheat over to. With just GJ in the backfield, they know he is going to run and he still gets 10 yards a pop. If they start cheating over to EB's side to cover him, and GJ keeps it, then EB was just a decoy, has no risk of injury, and GJ could pop a 15-20+ yard run. God forbid you involve some play-action into this nonsense...

if he wants to play QB he better think real hard about whether or not he wants to play in the NFL, at safety he will be a top ten pick, probably even after this season, but at 5'11 he'll never play under center in the NFL

berry is a game changer but i'm not sure that he could change the game on offense. especially not at qb. he is a great athlete and finding ways to use him in all aspects of our special teams would be a good idea in my opinion but not on offense.
