Berry's Thoughts on Playing Offense

Did anyone else notice that even Verne Lundquist on the CBS broadcast this weekend hinted at EB being QB?

It's pretty bad when the TV announcer knows that your STARTING QB NEEDS REPLACED...wake up Fulmer!!!

I think Pickens would be an even better example but guys, why in the world is there this big hang-up in trying to fit a "great athlete" square peg into a round hole at QB? I mean, the Browns are having some QB issues, WTH isn't Jamal or Stallworth lining up at QB? They're good athletes.

Look, I know that Berry played some QB in HS and frankly having a WildBerry thing doesn't sound all that bad but there's a reason Berry was never even considered being recruited as a QB. It's because he isn't a college QB. This teams problems are at having a REAL QB, not fiddling around with having a handful of plays split into packages for WR's and DB's.

Having said that once we have, say, Stephens in place and he shows some kind of ability to throw the ball down the field I think Berry lined up opposite Jones at WR with Warren at TE could look pretty darn scary to a defense.

I shoulda read this first....I agree!

And you think they are using him to his max ability?

right now I do. He says "I could learn it" not that "I know it and I'm ready". Not a great idea to throw out a guy who knows only a small part of the offense (then again they're doing it to Crompton so maybe I'm wrong)

I actually had the opportunity to watch Berry play QB in high school and he is definitely a quality QB. I watched him march up and down the field on a decent defensive team. At least he knows how to move a team down the field and pick up 1st downs.

There is no way he will be playing at QB as an actual QB. Those are the moves you make in the offseason, not now. But it certainly wouldn't hurt to let him run a few read option plays every once and awhile like the coaching staff said he would. I figured we were saving his package until the UF game but that has come and gone. Not sure what we are saving it for now. The Liberty bowl?

as long as Phil is at the helm, you can forget Berry at QB. For some reason, Phil is personally indebted to Crompton at QB, and I guarantee you he will start against Northern Illinois this weekend.

Berry would have been better off to go elsewhere. He is probably figuring that out right now.

I wish he would give Stephens or Coleman a shot. I don't understand why he thinks that Crompton is going to be come a Legend. He sucks.

I think it would have been very easy over the past year and a half EB's been on campus to teach him 15 to 20 plays whether he is playing wr or qb.

Or let him return some punts or kickoffs.

He should get the ball some and that is why I think he isn't being used to his fullest abilities.

This isn't high school football we're talking about here. This is big time SEC football. Put Eric Berry in on offense and defense and you're almost guaranteed to get a serious injury.

The best thing Berry can do for this team is focus on playing the best defense he can, learning his coverages and becoming a shut down pass defender like Deon Grant. As good as he is, Berry still finds himself out of position too often. He can be great, but not if he doesn't get focused on being the best safety on the field.

Knowing and not being able to execute = still sucking(Crompton)

Learning it but able to make big time plays when needed = an improvement for the team(Berry, Jones, And possibly Stephens)

I work 5mins from Creekside where Berry was the QB an he moved the ball down the field and looked more like Vick than Vick did, and definatly would be better at QB than Crompton way better than that crazy punk Schaffer Fulmer recruited a few yrs back.

Why not give it a try hell we should have open tryouts from the university they would be a hugh improvement to what we have now.

I like our backup safety, better than our backup QB. If Berry says he can do it, I believe him. Let the man play. It can't much worse.

Pro Tip: Hey Coach Fulmer, if you name Berry your starting QB, people might actually show up this Saturday.

Funny....I already made a poll on whether or not Berry would be a good QB.

Putting Berry in on offense for one or two plays increases his chance of injury by about 3%. With the offenses inability to make anything happen, you take that chance IMO.

It increases our chances of winning by 100000%..."IMO" if he wants to do it, let him.

Using Berry at QB would require creativity.. something in which fulmer doesnt seem to have.

Berry needs to get some snaps on offense. I wish they would put Berry and Gerald Jones in the backfield together some and let them go.

I'm positive that Berry could hand the ball off and probably come way closer than to completing a pass than Crompton. Berry could become a double legend. He has already achieved legend status as a DB.
