what does W-L have to do with being the best player?

W-L shouldn't have anything to do with being the best player, but nonetheless it does factor into the voters' minds. It is unusual for a player to win it on a team with more than 2 losses. That was one of the knocks against Tebow the year he won it.

I think Kiffin knows this is his only year with Eric Berry so he is going to use him in every way possible. Ride that Berry train!

Anyone else think they could of designed a better site for the campaign, seems a little amateurish.

He got robbed?? When was the last time you saw a Heisman winner from a 5-7 team?

i was in fact referring to him having much better stats and getting robbed of the thorpe last year. i could see where i would confuse a gator fan by that comment. he was never a consideration for the heisman race, but again to beat a dead horse, he was robbed of the thorpe.

No excuse for Berry not winning last year, but has a soph ever won the Thorpe?

it should not have mattered if he was a freshman, sophmore, junior, or even a senior. he was the best defensive back on the field last year. he is shattering records left and right and will only be a junior. this is why popularity contests suck.

I think this campaign is more about hype for the team and program as much as it is about actually trying to win a Heisman.

While I certainly hope he wins it, I don't think it will happen.

We haven't had a heisman at UT in 110+ years of football, I can't see a defensive player getting our first with so many good qb's playing this year.

That being said, I wish i had a vote!

i think this is correct. While us at UT definitely want EB to win the heisman, the chances of it happening are slim.

however, this campaign is just another pr machine to increase the awareness of ut football and to bring it back to the national spotlight.

announcing this a month before the season gives reporters and shows like college football live another reason to write and/or report about ut.

publicizing the fact that ut has such a great player in EB, and the fact that he could possibly make a run at the heisman should improve the image of the program.

kiffin has proven he knows how to use pr to shed a positive light on his program, this, in my opinion, is just another example of that.

just for the record, i think what EB has done is far more impressive than what woodson did. i don't doubt for a second that if berry was put in the same situations (offensively) woodson was put in, his stats would be the same or even better.

I think the timing is quite desperate on Kiffin's part. He loves the spotlight to stay on Tennessee...and he likes to keep it positive if at all possible.
While watching him speak yesterday about EB (though the whole Heisman circus is a little impressive) I just heard, "please don't be mad at me tomorrow when JS is a Trojan, and you realize that I've really screwed us over in the QB department."

Project much? You must be one of these people that looks at his dog and claims he's sad when your team loses a football game.

The idea that the Berry-for-Heisman campaign is some kind of an elaborate distraction from the QB situation is nonsense.

Haha! What was that slam about looking at my dog? I think that one was a swing-and-a-miss.
You are free to think that it's nonsense all you want, but I find it quite naive to ignore the timing of this announcement. It's obviously very early to start a Berry4heisman website and campaign, so why now? Better yet, why the day before CLK knows that Scroggins will turn him down? It's because he knows the fans are going to really let frustration kick in with this whole QB situation.
Don't get me wrong, I love the EB hype. I just find the timing quite strategic on Kiffin's part. He might as well have just gone ahead and said out loud that JS won't be a Vol.

It makes a lot of sense to start the campaign before he and Mr. Berry travel to Alabama for SEC media days...there are going to be a lot of articles coming out of media days.

I'll type slowly so you can keep up. You are completely projecting your own thoughts upon the situation, in much the same way that some pet owners claim to be able to tell what their pets are "thinking" based on a completely expressionless dog- or cat-face. Although now that I think about it: you watched a video of a man talking about one thing, and yet you claim to be able to tell that he's thinking about some completely different than he's saying. So maybe it's just that you're a woman instead.

Again -- the idea that this Heisman campaign has anything to do with Scroggins is nonsense. If you're wanting to connect the timing to anything, you might want to consider that SEC Media Days are coming up too.

Thanks for typing slower that time. This time I get your backwards reference to the way dogs and cats react to their owners. I also now see how much sense that made to begin with. You are also correct that I'm a woman. Nice slam btw! Ouch!!!
I love how everyone gets all bent out of shape when someone presents an idea that they don't like. I realize that SEC media days interviews are coming soon. I also realize that when (if) JS commits to USC today, Kiffin will know that he's screwed-the-pooch (there's a dog reference for ya) with QBs since he's been here.
If you honestly don't think that could have anything to do with the fact that he announced EB's candidacy for Heisman THE DAY BEFORE, then that's fine.
This is a board where people share ideas and opinions. I don't know what I'm talking about any more than you.
Agree or disagree, just don't be so mean as to call someone a guy who has awkward interactions with his pets. That's just mean!

if anybody watched CFB live yesterday, they were talking about this, they said without doing some special teams and offense like charles woodson, he doesnt really have a shot.
was woodson even that good on defense?
i think berry should easily win the Bednarik award and the Thorpe award but it will take some work on the other side of the ball to win the heisman

And, typically, where other people criticize those opinions. You called Kiffin "desperate" based on something that you completely made up out of the air, so I and some other folks disagreed. That's the way it works.

Honestly, it's going to take like 2 touchdown returns off of Tim Tebow to get him in the picture for the Heisman. That is about the only way I can see the media campaign for him taking off, it he sticks it to one of the current favorites. He's a long shot at best, but I like the fact that we're hyping him and that Kiffin is promoting our players.

He has to have a stellar season similar to last years, but the biggest thing that needs to be done is for UT to have a chance at being a national title contender. And by doing it with our defense. If that happens, then the argument to be considered for the Heisman should be given. If we aren't a title contender and he has a mediocre year, he wins the Thorpe, but is not considered for the Heisman.

1 more int then last year, 1 more td then last year, and 50 more return yards then last year, if he does that, he takes it

I am actually really disappointed with the content on the site. I expected more. I personally think the first thing that should show up is when he decleated Moreno.
