I know we've had plenty of threads on him, but I don't think I have ever seen a true freshmen stand out more in fall practice than this kid. He obviuosly tore it up again this morning in the situational scrimmage.

Is it b/c there is more information available now than 10 or 15 years ago? Or is this kid going to be our best defensive player ever? Is there anybody in our history that has been praised this much so early?

Its probably alittle of both...More exposure of him doing great for a true freshman

Best defensive player ever?

Reggie White and Al Wilson will just be two that I'll throw out there.

Or Atkins and DeLong.

Odds are he will not be our best D player ever I know, but at the rate he is going he could contend for that title. I mean it seems like evertime I turn around I read something else about him and he's only a TRUE frosh. If you didn't know he was a freshmen and you read everything about him thus far then you would think he was a returning AA.

In twenty years of following UT football I've never read about a true freshmen making this kind of impact so early. Hopefully all the hype will be true come Sept 1.

Lets leave Reggie White and Al Wilson out of this conversation for the moment. He has to show that he's worthy to be mentioned with Dale Carter...

I think that this comment would be more appropriate for some other threads about Berry - for example, where Gordon24ILoveTelleTubbies (or whatever his name was) aka Football Freak proclaims him to be a future AA. The OP was not making claims like that - just that there is more buzz about Berry (in his opinion/recollection) than he has seen before for a true frosh. He didn't say he was the best defensive player or would be in the future - he was just asking the question - why are we hearing so much about him. Does that mean that he is that good? I think those are fair questions. I think it is fair to ask, did Al Wilson get this much buzz as a true Frosh? The answer to that question is a matter of discussion obviously, but it is a fair question.

Oh yeah... I realize the OP wasn't going out on that limb. I was just responding to the guy that mentioned White and Wilson.

I agree that Berry is getting a lot of buzz for a freshman. That is partly due to the fact that this year, we may actually see freshmen make contributions on the field immediately, where as before, it would have been a moot point to even discuss freshmen making contributions because Fulmer had been so adverse to playing them. If Fulmer stays around long enough and continues to play talented freshmen, you will see some other newcomers get praise as well.

Right now, the newness of the idea is what makes Berry intriguing.

:eek:k:

OK...I get you. I agree. I just hope this isn't a product of the fact that he is the only sharp crayon in the box, if you get my drift.
