I haven't heard anything about Ben Martin or Marlon Walls' injury status other than that they are still out. Has anybody heard anything? They were going to be key contributors this year and I hope they will be able to return at 100% by the spring.:peace2:

I don't know how they are currently but we're going to RS them to save their eligibility.

Burhead is more than likely correct. They'll Medical RS and not see the field this year.

Really strange set of injuries, though.

I think I read someone saw Ben Martin at a Vol Walk on crutches. When asked he said he was doing ok and on schedule, but its a very long rehab.

Wonder what the schedule for these injuries are? Do they have the exact same injury?

They both had achilles tears/ ruptures I believe (not sure if they were partial or what). I have no idea what a normal schedule would look like for that kinda rehab. I've heard its one of the most painful injuries to have and rehab.

I saw Ben Martin the night before the Florida game and he had a boot on and was on crutches.

Another thing about an Achilles injury is that once it has been torn it is very easy to re-injure. Or so I've heard.

i hear that too. an i asked a physical therapist and was told that is true if they rush or dont rehab seriously.if the injured person rehabs correctly and with proper strength training it shouldnt be a concern.
like the acl/mcl injuries

I agree about med RS is the best option, but it makes me nervous. Our record isn't so great actually getting the med RS.

So the consensus is a redshirt. Man it would be great to have them an extra year. Even though Ben Martin has the durability of a premature newborn.

Is it safe to assume they will be able to contribute on a high level next year? We really need Marlon to be 100% next year.

I actually ruptured my achilles two weeks ago and had surgery last week. I'm told that the recovery timetable is pretty standard across the board. 6 weeks in a cast after surgery, then into a boot for another 6 weeks, at which point rehab will being. It's roughly 6 months until you are able to resume full activities again. My surgeon told me that it might be about a year before I get my "springs" back and feel back to normal.

So, if all goes well, the guys should be ready for a little spring work and should be a go for the fall. I think that some of the rehab process will be mental as much as anything.

I don't think anyone knows anymore the timeframe. Cedric Griffin for the Vikings tore his ACL in the NFC Championship game and was already back. The doctors, rehabilitation programs, and athletes these days are way ahead of what it used to be.
