Believe it or not, Butch should be a lot more like Spurrier

Last year after Tennesee came back in the 4th quarter to beat South Carolina, during the post game press conference, Spurrier clearly owned up to his mistakes. He admitted that his team was not good enough to hold the lead and was not well coached enough overall as a team. I've yet to see Butch own up to his mistakes after a loss like this one. It's always some excuse to make up for his poor in-game coaching abilities. Maybe Butch could actually learn something from Spurrier and that's to be a man and take full responsibilities for your actions.

I showed that video to someone and said this is what I expected after the Oklahoma loss. Spurrier is clearly distraught and shoulders the loss almost solely on himself. Butch could only wish to be half the coach Spurrier was in his 40's.

Bear Bryant also expressed personal responsibility for Bama losses, rare as they were.

There's nothing he can say to win the press conference after losing like that. There's no point in acting outraged by him not giving the perfect answer.

I get your point but honestly this whole topic of Butch completely owning up to the losses has no bearing on anything whatsoever. If he doesn't start winning some big games he'll be gone soon enough. If he can make some critical changes and reverse this trend, he'll stick around. What he says simply doesn't matter. Results on the field is all that matters.

Agree that what he says in the press conference is irrelevant. Spurrier eat crow at the press conference and is no better of a coach for it. If anything his teams are getting worse. Wins and losses are all that matter. Who cares what he said afterwards.

Football coaches have to be perceived by players as infallible for the players to have faith that by following the coaches' instructions exactly the team will find victory. So, it is difficult for a coach to publicly acknowledge mistakes and shoulder the blame for failure. Guys like Spurrier and Bear were long established coaches. Butch continues to have tons, and tons of younger guys on his roster. By publicly admitting mistakes he would put himself in a tough spot trying to balance accepting blame for failure and maintaining the locker room. Perhaps when Butch has earned the right to stay around a few more years (which I think he will) then he will be a little more free to be more open with the media??

Who gives a damn if the coach comes in and shoulders the blame? Really? This actually bothers you guys? What good does it do? Does it smooth everything over? Is it like kissing it to make it feel better or something? Complaining over this kind of thing is what beeotches do.

Spurrier screwed up against us 2 years in a row. So him owning up,and him actually rectifying things arent jiving.

The fans have jumped the shark.

Caught Butch interview on Finebaum before the OU and looked Visibly scared! After the interview, Finebaum chuckles a little and said "Things looking a little tense in Knoxville" and I said to myself, of crap we are gonna lose!

Butch knows he is headed to the hot seat and it is pretty obvious he is coaching scared! JMO
