Belated Congrats; State of Affairs; Other Things

I was out of town as of Sunday and just got back into town, could only post a couple of notes via my phone before being swept up in work things.

First, congrats to you on beating SoCar and finding yourself springboarded right back to the front of the SECE race. Not sure that's necessarily a great place to be as it seems like every team up there gets knocked back a peg the following weekend, lol. But I imagine you'll take it, right?

I know that many are disturbed by the effort to give it away at the end, but its a win. And Gator fans, whose team looked absolutely miserable agianst UGA, are in no position to whine about style points. Bottom line is you lead the division.

The SECE is truly either tremendously gifted this year, or absolutely universally mediocre. I can't decide, to be honest. I'd like to think its that there's six top caliber teams all crammed into one division that is the SECE. But, it sure does seem that in any given week each of the SECE teams can look like total crap and in a situation where you would expect to see them shine.

I think Florida is likely out of it. Let's put it this way: I'm going online later to look for Capital One Bowl tickets. I am a little dissapointed, but not overly so. I felt good about the team after our game and really thought we had something special, but the defensive woes were underestimated and the Tebow-Harvin connection has cooled in the past 30 days or so.

Now, can someone please lower CPF's dosage? Guy was a grinning fool after your game. Wackily so.

The grin was a little scary. I think the SEC East is very average. The off week obviously helped Georgia, and Tebow could have used a Saturday off himself. Kentucky played with their fourth string runningback and was without their best receiver. Mississippi State was way too physical for them.

All in all, we have never seen a year like this, and even though a few fans (myself included) were expecting the race to go to the last weekend of the year, watching it happen still has us in disbelief.

It's not that we didn't expect it to be close, we just expected more race and less demolition derby.

Mediocre teams... it would be very interesting to see how they perform in the bowl games...

I think we are all just plain olde mediocre. Hang on to your hats, we may all be in for a wild ride the next few weeks til this thing shakes out!

I will say this. If I was a Gator fan I would be kicking myself. This season set up for you guys much better than it did for everyone else. Usually the Gators are a little more skilled at rising above the mediocrity. Georgia would be a close second on this list.

On the other hand, when the East becomes a train wreck and teams like SC and Kentucky have legitimate shots at the title, it adds a little more spice to every game.

It's hard to think that the SEC East can be that good when the entire division only has one good win over a non-division opponent (Kentucky over LSU). Stack that up against Tennessee getting pasted by Alabama and Cal, UF losing to LSU and Auburn, Kentucky losing to MSU and barely beating a really mediocre Louisville team, South Carolina having so much trouble with North Carolina....well, it's hard to construct an argument that our division is a bunch of juggernauts beating up on each other.

I can't find a juggernaut, that is for sure. It is still a very physically demanding schedule.

Looking back on it, I was convinced that the talent we have -- and I do believe its there -- would be good enough to overcome two main things. First and foremost, the lack of experience on defense. Second, the lack of a go-to running back.

Saturday proved me dead wrong on both counts.

It is a hard lesson for all of us. The Vols are poster children for this very fact. If you have a young secondary and you aren't getting to the passer with your front four, it is going to cost you at least one or two games a year. Until Georgia sacked Tebow 85 times on Saturday, I have been befuddled by the amount of time most SEC East QBs have had in the pocket this year.

I was stunned by the lack of protection. The offensive line had been excellent for two years. What a day to not show up for work.

Leak was exceptional at feeling pressure and getting rid of the football. Tebow just wasn't as mobile as he has been....and your line got whipped repetitively.

It was also one of UM's worst game plans to date. He knew Tebow was tender, and he had a hard time accounting for it.

It sure made it tough on your OL that Tebow couldn't run. With no realistic threat of the run UGA was able to just pin their ears back and bring the house, and for a great rushing QB, Tebow doesn't seem to be much of a scrambler yet. He didn't help the line out much by avoiding the rush or getting rid of the ball.

You guys are still in pretty good shape, though. UGA still has to play Auburn and Kentucky. It obviously wouldn't be surprising if we dropped a game or two. I wouldn't buy my Credit Card Bowl tickets yet if I were you.

Well the Gator O-line had gotten significantly younger this year, and with the injuries they had sustained, it was only a matter of time before some D-Line got through.

Tough to do anything with an injured QB when you can't turn around and hand the ball off to a solid back.

Btw, nothing on that hit on Stafford as he had been kneeling for 10 seconds. That was pretty bad.......

There is a formula for beating florida now. Auburn laid out the blueprint. Limit teebows runs and double down on harvin. Noone else on the team has shown they can step up and be the guy.

might as well throw in the ooc games in that list as well.......TN getting drilled by an average Cal team, FL has played no one of note OOC, GA may have the best one of the year in beating Ok St, i don't think SC gets any credit for barely beating a bad UNC team as you said, and KY's win over L'ville doesn't have the cache it had at the time.

at this point, i'm more and more inclined to think that it's going to turn out to be a mediocre SEC E when it's all said and done.
