But a woman sitting on the bow of a nearby boat saw him. Or rather, she caught a glimpse of a bright orange object floating on the waves as the morning sun climbed higher in the sky. Curious, she asked the boat's captain to drive closer.
What she had seen was Crouch's orange University of Tennessee fishing shirt.
Crouch didn't know the boat was there until it was almost right on top of him.
