Yeah, its about 30 mins north of me. We took a beer bus there last year for my brother in law's birthday. It is outstanding. They have a full restaurant with it. If you are ever out this way, you definitely need to take a trip
Hope I get the chance. Boss and I have talked bout retiring there. Would love to scuba dive the Kelt forests except for the big guppies they have swimming round there.
Will be touring the Old Mecklenburg Brewery in Charlotte next Saturday with my old man. He still home brews in his retirement home. He's wheelchair bound but still has his help brew and bottle for him. Gotta love it! Wish OMB had a wider distribution, hard to find their stuff outside of the Charlotte area.
Juniper Pale was originally a Thanksgiving seasonal. Rogue designs beers specifically around food pairings, that one was made to be paired with turkey. Try it with a turkey cranberry sammich if you get the chance. Great stuff.
About two hours normally. Sometimes closer to three on game day.I'm definitely coming up for that one. How far is Portland from U of O
It's a proprietary one called Dare malt.Milo - plan to take you up on the Rogue Chatoe Single Malt. Next Thursday should be able to get one. Total Wine expects to have some by then. Any idea what type of Single Malt they use? From the looks of the photo, seems to be a light one that isn't roasted too much.
That's awesome about your dad. Can't believe they let him do that there lol
What's even better is the old baptist conservative blue hairs try to casually swing by with the hope he will offer them a brew to try.
He's got a bunch of young entry level kids taking care of him that he's teaching and converting to brewing. One of his proteges made the best damn pumpkin ale I've ever had using a pumpkin he grew himself. I'm offering 2-3 of my home brews for just one of those. This kid nailed it on his first try. I prefer the distinct yet subtle taste, not the usual overpowering you get from standard pumpkin ales.
Enjoying this smoked porter from Stone I found at Thursday tasting. Very nice, right blend of smokey. 9296, I think even you would like, not as harsh as German Rauchbiers.
That's awesome. I really want to start home brewing. Kind of lost on where to begin
Very easy, count on $150-$200 initial investment for 5 gallon system, then bout $35-45 per kit. The kits are pretty idiot proof, my buddy that I brew with is an engineer and b*itches that it is like a Beatty Crocker cake kit, no real "brewing" involved. We've since started adding extra ingredients to see what happens.
Check out another VN thread on home brewing. DarthVaul really knows his stuff and lays out the whole deal well. Milo also knows his stuff and can chime in. I'm not as serious about it, just having fun. Main thing I like is how fresh the beer is - you really realize how much store bought stuff spends lots of time on the shelves.
Decent is a good way to describe their beer. They are much better at cooking than brewing, although the have a rare gem here and there.I've been to boscos. That is their flaming stone beer. Their beer is decent

Obviously I feel the same way about Ghost River, Copperhead Red was above average and I really liked their 1887 IPA. Getting close to them to stop brewing that seasonal, might need to get it somewhere again.
