Beer (and beer pics!)

I will be going to Germany for Christmas. The beer will flow like wine.

Sweet! Enjoy! I would like to get over there anytime but I really want to be there in Oct!

If you're close enough, you have to hit the Weihnstephan brewery. It's the world’s oldest continuously operating brewery, EST 1040. Hopefully they’ll have some of their Festbier left over. The stuff will curl your toes. But for all I know it’s probably their Budweiser.

Regardless, here you go:
Weihenstephan - lteste Brauerei der Welt

I have heard it's pretty good. Mich's Pale Ale and Marzen are both good. If you find a sampler of the Mich craft beers its a good choice. As much as it kills me to say it.

I have not been able to find a sampler. Porters are really good. I will have to try the black and tan if I can find them.

Welcome to the thread BTW

Octoberfest starts the last two weeks of September and goes thru the first weekend of OCT.
If you go to late in October, you'll miss all the fun

Went 3 years in a row, 90-92

If your going to Madison
Check out Capital Brewery

Capital Brewery • Middleton, Wisconsin

Why, why, why did you have to do that to me? Now I’m going to have to find a way to work that in or at the very least pick up a few of their brews. Have you had New Glarus?

I am flying into Milwaukee and have business in Watertown. So I will report back on my journey.

Thanks!

I've had them all New Glarus, Capital, Lienenkugels, but Blatz is the best :D
I lived in Madison, on two different occasions

enjoy your trip

Blatz, eh? I heard about New Glarus from a buddy that lived in Milwaukee for 40 years. Their Staghorn is one of the best beers I have ever had! I also have an uncle in Elroy two cousins in Tomah and one in Menomonie.

I plan to enjoy my trip and I will let everyone know how it goes.

Thanks again.

Someone gave me a brew called Granny Gear Ale. The label looks like it was made by a 10 year old, and the beer looks like gear oil color wise. Anyone tried or heard of it? I think it's from Hooch Brewery.

All I have to say is that it may not be a great idea to have essentially unlimited Guinness in your house while Tennessee is playing football this badly.

Arthur Guinness was an evil, evil man.

Yeah, I wish that were a problem for me.

How long do kegs last? I'm afraid of investing the money and it not panning out.

10-15 pints on a weekend. That is all I would drink (I guestimate)

With noone I know that drinks it, can I safely take on a keg in a kegeraztor alone?

I do not know how long they last, if you know what I mean...

It shouldn't be an issue. I've had one last a month with no problems; I would think you could stretch it to five weeks or maybe even six without too much of a problem. The pints at the end of the keg might not be quite as nice as when you first tap it, but they should still be very drinkable.

It does seem to be important to keep it moving a little bit. As in, I try to make sure to draw at least one or two pints from it every few days. I went away for a five-day weekend once with about a dozen pints left, and when I got back the remains definitely seemed off. (Although it could have been my hangover, I guess.) Could just have been that the keg was almost out, too, but since then I've either waited to replace the keg until after long trips, or asked a friend to stop in and have a couple of pints while I'm gone. (Much easier than asking someone to take care of the cats, that's for sure.)

15 pints a weekend times 5 weekends is 75 pints. Add a pint on Wednesday nights to keep the keg moving and you're up to 80. There are about 90 in a keg; I'm sure you could fit a few extra in here or there....

Hey, any time. I am a bit of a beer nerd/snob. I have an upcoming business trip to Wisconsin and I’ve got enough time to go by one of the best breweries in the country:

New Glarus Brewing Company

The sad thing is that they only distribute in Wisconsin. But they put heaven in a bottle. I have to rely on friends, family and family of friends to bring it down.

I hope you figured out the hookup while you were up there this week. I will have to stop by Sam's Party Store Saturday to replenish what I drank after the NIU game! At least the replenished variety will make for a better tailgate before our 5-3 victory over MSU.

Debate + pausing the whole shebang while the boy goes down + coming back an hour later to watch the post-mortems + beer = 4 freaking AM, probably.

I do love beer, though. There needs to be a Drinkers' Party.

I got to try the Uff-Da Bock I was telling you about and it is pretty good. And of course I had some Staghorn. I also tried Leinenkugel Octoberfest wich was also tasty. I never found any Blatz or Capital. But I will probably be back in Madison the first week of November. I will try to sample them then and see if they might be a better option for Conrad's company to go after. Is you dad still thinking about going up to WI?

The New Glarus Brewery was really cool. I have some pics to show.

Went to a doctor for a physical this morning. Endured a DRE. Think I'm going to go ahead and start in on the beer three hours early this Friday.
