Beech vs Independence on CSS right now.

Hurd averaged over 10 yards per carry. i never said the kid wasnt talented, just saying that tonight most of his yards came from running through good sized holes. he didnt break many tackles or make many people miss. 1 play he was about 15 yards ahead of everyone and got chased down. IIRC last week he had a large number of carries but not many yards

I don't disagree that Hurd is obviously the more talented player, and definitely more physical player. I just think your reasoning could be counter-productive in an argument for Hurd. He received as many carries and ran behind a better line. He didn't gain all of those 3500 yds on his own last season.

Carter lacks the size to be a lead back at a major D1 program, but he is productive on the high school level.

i was just giving my reasoning on why Carter wasnt the best player on the field tonight. that was the original question and someone said its hard to argue with his stats.

Gotcha. Stats can definitely be misleading.

yep, even when you see that Gaulden posts 20-25 tackles its misleading. he had more of a presence than that. the kid was in on every tackle. seemed like he had 40. it actually became comical how many times he was getting a tackle

Hurd ran behind a better line but definitely carried the ball less (averaging 20-30 times per game - with the Henry Co exception). He averaged more yardage because 1.) he's a better RB and 2.) he had a better line.

And to clear up a misconception, J Hurd was the starting RB his sophomore year while Carter was his backup. Not sure where people are coming up with the "Carter would've started over Hurd" last year as that never would have happened suspended or not.

Carter is a good back and has great potential to play ball in college, but honestly, the 50 carries tonight made me sick. Crabtree should be b!tch-slapped. They have a lot more backs this year, and not one kid should be run the ground like that.

Gaulden is in on almost every tackle. Wharton isnt getting many touches but it making some plays. Dorian Carter is getting a ton of yards and getting the ball on almost every play. 3 TDS about 150-175 yards

Wharton just had a nice kickoff return

Thanks for the updates

Thanks for clearing it up. I stated both of your points about Hurd myself. He's a better RB, & ran behind a better line.

On Carter, I was under the (apparently incorrect) impression that he didn't play at Beech his freshman season. The notion of him and Hurd, and the positional controversy was further fueled during the ESPN broadcast of the Beech-SC game.

You know more about the situation than I do, so I will defer.

Carter is a SR so he may not have played at Beech his FR yr, but that wouldn't be why he was behind Hurd when Hurd was a SO as they were both SO.

Sorry...meant sophomore year. In other words, I thought last season (his junior year) was his first at Beech.
