site
/sīt/
1. an area of ground on which a town, building, or monument is constructed.
Site. I meant site.

A web address is also a site, so that definition is also valid.
It's both a beautiful sight and a beautiful site.
It's only not a cite.

A off topic question about the checkerboard end zones ? In the 90's when the field was turf the full end zone was checked. Now as everyone know they leave a green border. As for myself I preferred the fuller look. Does anyone know why it's not painted full ?

I've wondered the same many times.
Always preferred the full end zone checkerboard to the current look with green outline.

Great charity, great follow through Yankee.
artificial turf would cure that. can you imagine how bright the field would be with the orange/white against a deep green. dang that would look nice...

You must be a "youngun"...we had artificial turf up to around the mid to late 90s and yes the endzones looked much, much crisper.

I believe it is an SEC rule about the border around the endzones. Most other teams in the league just do their name or mascot in the endzones on a solid background with the backgrounds stopping a few feet from the lines. It is for the refs and replay guys to see the goal line and outlines better.

That said, other conferences do not have the rule so I wonder if their officials have problems seeing and reviewing...or is it just the blind consortium employed by the SEC?

Also, if an SEC team is playing a non-conference game at a neutral site with officials from another conference, does the rule get enforced...meaning could it a full endzones for the bowl?

Well Im not a yougnun by far. (66 yrs). I remember Doug's Rug astro turf back in the day.It would look pretty lame by todays standards. but there are some really eyecatching fields out there today. And I really like our Orange and white unis on a 65 inch Vizio. More Orange,, the better!

Never really thought about it, but it does seem like painting it all white then filling it in does make sense. Makes sure everything is square, measured correctly, etc.
Simple geometry can tell you exactly how big the square needs to be

They had AstroTurf at one point and time. I think I read an article where there was poor drainage or something like that. So they had to remove the turf and plant natural grass.

I recall there was a concern about the number of knee injuries that were occurring on the old artificial turf.

They went to a green strip because the refs had a harder time judging the sideline with the white squares going all the way to the sideline.

WOW...I stand corrected my friend. Have not heard the term Dougs Rug in a while...good stuff !!!

I agree, part of me wants to copy Boise State and do an all Orange field 😁

On a side note, how do you like the Vizio?
I have a 60 curve screen Samsung that was a first gen and is starting to have issues in the curve area and looking to update this year.

The first artificial field at UT was Tartan, and it sucked!

In a lot of cases it looks like they still do. So thankful for instant reply and reviewing calls on the field.

Tennessee was the first to use the Tartan Turf and I believe it was installed in 1968. From previous players it was like playing on asphalt, nothing like the turf fields of today.
