beating Florida this year worthy....

Beating FL is job #1 in 2012 and the key to our season.

That said, it's doubtful people would storm the field unless it was a walkoff win like Vandy was last year. Something that spontaneous couldn't be controlled...no matter how much security was on the field.

I say pick-em game at best. The only way I see UT coming into the game favored is if we really dismantle NC St and UF looks horrible @ aTm. If UF beats aTm, they'll come in favored by a TD or so.

That's not exactly aiming high.

Storm the field, you only live once and we haven't won since 2004.

Party like its 1999.

I've been waiting for Tennessee to be a national title contender since 2001. Beating florida, even the florida of 2010 or 2011 will at least give us a glimpse. We beat florida and the season is probably going to be a success.

Of the fans storming the field?

Oh yeah, Here we are...Tradition rich Tennessee...One of the most respected football schools in the history of college football...Rushing the field after beating FLORIDA....That is so embarrassing to even think of....you don't see Notre Dame fans rushing the field....Or Michigan fans or Alabama fans or Nebraska fans.....UT fans would look so bush league if they do that....It's putting yourself on Kentucky's level....As a UT fan I expect to win and when they do I go grab a few drinks and celebrate like fans who have been there before. :salute:

florida's D will be good but their offense will be way down again---UT should beat them easily in Knoxville.

Storm the dang field if we do!!! We need to have a good time for once. Besides, if everyone decides too, who Is gonna stop 20,000 drunk lunatics all clamoring to get on the field. I'll tell you, noone, thats who.

Good post.

I can see your side and I'd agree with ya pre 2007....but we haven't been worth a damn since. If we go undefeated they can rip it all apart all season long.

While a UT win over the Gators this year would salve some festering wounds and end the streak, the reality is that Florida is nothing special this year and I really don't think that beating us in 2012 tells you nearly as much about your team as much as it might have in years past.

I would expect UT to be a solid favorite this year. Probably 4-5 points.

While I am typing this with a little vomit in my mouth for agreeing with a UF fan about anything..... I do agree. For right now at least (season hasn't started yet) we would probably be the favorites for the game. Not goal post tearing down worthy.

Absolutely not.

It was pathetic in 1998 when some of our fans stormed the field after the Florida game.

When we beat Bama in 1982 it was justified because it was the first time we had beaten them in 11 years.

Under no circumstance should ANY of our fans storm the field were we to beat Florida this year.

True that we didn't play them every year until the split, however, not at all misleading that we have lost to them 22 times in the last 50+ years. 22-9 in their favor. Not misleading.

Did anyone have a problem when we rushed the field in 98'? It's not like we knew ahead of time we were gonna be national champions. We were tired of getting stomped by them several years in a row. That's exactly what has happened here.

Yeah, a lot of people did including me.

2iron,

I agree. If you want to be treated like one of the top teams of all time in college football then you need to act like you belong. Storming the field is NOT acting like you belong.

Nobody needs to downplay the amount of good it would do this program to win that third game this season, especially if we are 2-0 going into it.

We need a big time win,to get our fanbase, team, and everyone associated with the program to start thinking positve and have confidence.

We win this game to go 3-0 at night in Neyland and I say go freaking nuts and live it up. We have a right to enjoy a win like this.

I agree with you. The 1998 game was the best game I have ever attended and still don't think we should have rushed the field. I understand the frustration that has built losing to these guys but think tearing goal posts down is more for the Vandy and Kentucky programs.

For an old established SEC program like UT, with tradition, rushing the field after any win is embarrassing. Leave that to vandy and UK.

As I posted earlier in this thread, I don't think we should do it because Florida shouldn't be very good this year. But after thinking about it, I think if they're undefeated when we play them they may be ranked, and we should storm the field if we win.

It's these kinds of moments that put programs back on the map. The win, plus the fan excitement will be all over SportsCenter for the week following the game. Excitement is contagious and will help with recruiting tremendously.
