Do y'all miss the beast package that we used to use with AJ on short 3rd and 4th downs? Also I'd like to know if we should try it out this year or are we better off with Hurd doing the wildcat like we've seen occasionally.

Let AJ run the read option.

Except for the false starts.

Yes...I wonder if Butch has even seen film of our past success with it. Can't hurt.

Justin King is still on the roster.
He has the size, athleticism and experiece to run short yardage read options. He was a decent running qb in high school wasn't he?

I really like the new Beast package more. looks like we were gonna run the same play twice on Saturday but the LT moved early both times.

I miss the I formation, I miss draw plays and play action passes, I miss having a relevant run game, etc. I'm not a fan of this offensive style to begin with and it really displeases me when it's working so pitifully. Maybe once we have success with it in a few years it'll grow on me. It just seems gimmicky.

But all of that is so "old school". We've got to be "new school" even when it doesn't work again and again and again......

This is my idea of imagination.
How about lining up Alton Howard, Justin King, and the Berry twin ( the one that played qb in high school) in the same backfield and draw up something out of the box?

Point being...there are several people on the team that can run specific packages as a wrinkle. Emmanuael Mosley is another.

Im with you on this but hard to run a play action unless the RB is gaining yards on the ground which takes a good OL.

But, back to your point it seems like the power football of yesterday is slowly wilting away to the different zone reads.

I really like watching the I formation, it's probly my favorite. But no offense will work without good line play.

Every thing starts up front on both sides of the ball.

The perfect example is Oregon. Their system has worked b/c of great Oline play. And now that it isn't good they are losing games.

Beast package? I'm more interested in a Take a Knee package. If we'd implemented it against Florida last year and this year we would quite possibly have two wins in a row against them, or at worst a split.

The problem with the I formation is that no one is running it. How do you recruit for a position (fullback) that no longer exists? How do you recruit lineman for power football that have never done anything but zone block for their entire careers? If our system is working at every level from peewee to the pros, why isn't it working here? Hint: It's the jimmy's and the joe's not the scheme. JMO TIFWIW
