I understand most people want Butch to be fired or for him to walk. But the reality of the situation is, thats not going to happen.

However what will happen is wholesale changes to both sides of the ball and the strength and conditioning coach.

Therefore let's not waste time talking about HC replacements and instead start mentioning guys we would like at both coordinator positions and other asst positions.

OC - Kendall Briles, Kliff Kingsbury, Helfrich,
DC - Shoop(likely gets one more year with his choice of guys), Charlie Strong, Charles Kelly,

New S&C coach - ???
DB - Terry Fair, Corey Raymond,
OL - Tricket, Greg Frey, Neil Calloway, Bloomgren
Lb - ???
QB - ???

Unless he takes another job (unlikely) I think he gets another year too.

He does need to make staff changes but I'm not sure how much good it will do. I think it will be like the staff changes Dooley tried to make.. hard to hire quality when your viewed as being a lame duck coach and I think that is the perception right now.

If he is smart he let's Shoop bring in who he wants and retains Debord. Hires a new offensive line coach and a QB coach. Take the chains off his assistants and let them do their job. I'm not sure his ego will let him do that though. If he doesn't then he is hurting himself. I'm not saying that how to fix it but that's what I would do.

He might fire the SCC but that will be it. He is too stubborn to see that he needs to make changes to his coaching staff.

Are you sure most people want him fired? It is interesting though to consider possible staff replacements. We'll need good recruiters.

That is not true that most want him fired. The vocal minority want him fired but hey they always want every coach fired,

Well if he he doesn't make change I hope he doesn't have a rough start cause he will have 0 room for error.

He won't fire th coordinators. Our offense is scoring more than 30 point a game and Shoop got one year and it was plagued with injuries.

Not saying I want them to stay, just informing you that they will stay.

Everyone keeps saying he won't fire anyone but he did last year and hire Shoop . What a mistake that was .But I do think at least 2 will be replaced.

You have to have a Strength and Conditioning Coach before you can fire him. Butch took care of that back in the spring.

I know that I sound like a broken record, but nobody worth a spit is going to come here with Butch on the hot seat and a new AD en route. There may be a couple of changes, but those changes will not be upgrades. If I was Butch and I wanted to maximize my chances of lasting longer than one more season, I'd probably try to hire one or two former Vols players who don't have the experience to pose any serious professional challenge but whose presence on the staff will tug at the heartstrings of the fan base if anyone starts talking about cleaning house.

edit: Basically, this is the same strategy that Dooley seems to have adopted by hiring Jay Graham.

i am thinking the same thing....unless Debord does not renew at the end of this season, then besides the SCC I don't see him making an wholesale changes. I am not sure if this will work, but I would load up with some top Jr college people to fill in the holes, Kongbo an exception here because with his limited football career not sure where he will end up. Kamara was a Jr college guy, Patterson was a Jr college guy.....just something to throw out there!

I have said it before, but what coach/coordinator would come here knowing Lyle is out next year (if he makes it that far)?

If he is too stubborn, how'd we get Shoop or DeBord?

DeBord proves he is stubborn. Bajakian left on his own. So hiring DeBord was stubborn not getting someone with fresh ideas. He hired the guy to keep everything the same. As for Shoop. Who knows if Jancek didn't make it easy for Butch with what he did behind the scenes while s Title IX investigation was going on.

There won't be wholesale changes. No AD, Lyle basically on the hot seat without saying it..
No well respected coaches will walk into that i wouldn't think. Recruiting is going to suffer too. Lyle doesn't have much to sell right now..

If Butch were to a lot of of changes to his staff going into next season it could lead to a complete disaster. I doubt there will be that many changes inaiated by Butch. Maybe, some leave on their own, maybe even Butch leaves on his own, but I don't look for Butch to clean house.

It is time to rebuild Gatlinburg and hopefully everyone is safe today.

Butch will be happy as a lark on camera to beat a Minn in bowl #3. Then, If Butch and his staff can turn it around in the offseason and 2017, good for him, but I just don't have high hopes right now to say the least.

Not that it should influence any decision on his future but if Butch leaves we will probably lose Guarantano.
