Teddy, You have to put this stuff in perspective of several years of reading/hearing what the coaches and in particular Fulmer say.

Did you notice who he criticized on the OL? Ramone Johnson... who is at this point the 8th or 9th guy in the rotation at best. At this point last year, three OL positions were in question with a walk-on center penciled in. One of the guys who solidly held a guard position, Ligon, was not a good OL by UT standards.

By comparison, Fulmer is almost giddy in these reports. What he does say and doesn't say are both important.

FTR, when they call guys out, it is usually guys who are very close to where they need to be and have the confidence to deal with it.

They seem to be avoiding direct criticism of guys like Vinson and Paige. They're laying it on Hancock and O'Neal. They're mostly complimentary or silent about Briscoe, Taylor, Rogers, and Jones.

That's not to say they aren't lighting those guys up in practice or criticizing them privately... just that they use the media like the military tries to do now... and control what comes out even more tightly.

Don't worry about it Teddy! Tennessee and California are two different worlds. Your being treated pretty good compared to fans of other teams we play (i.e. USoCar). Football is a religion in the south and I can't find a Californian who even cares about any college sport (besides you)? So you are being giving some respect or these guys wouldn't even respond to you.

By Californian I don't know if you mean a student of Cal or a person from California... but if you mean a person from California then you are missing out on a bunch of UCLA basketball fans...

Cal has 2 threats on offense and 2 on defense, but none of them were affective last year...on the offensive side of the ball, we have Justin Forsett (IMO, a good, all-around back who has potential) and, of course (fanfare please) DeSean Jackson...on NCAA 08, he always outruns the secondary...I don't see that translating to Sept. 1 when Berry or Hefney locks him down...on defense...sigh...Thomas Decoud and Syd'quan (wtf??!!! who names their kid that??!!!) Thompson...both are...eh...alright defensive backs...as long as Ainge doesn't throw it at them too much, UT will be fine...

I hope we stomp Cal in the dirt Teddy, but I agree with you that a close fought game would be a better first game to watch.
