First, answer the following question:
Are you upset with the BCS because you believe that UT is getting screwed out of a National Championship or because you believe they are being screwed out of a BCS bowl game?

Once you have answered that question (with any sense you have chosen the latter response), then answer this question:
If there are no more upsets in college football, where will UT end up in the BCS?
Since Ohio State plays Michigan (in the last week of the season, nonetheless), Michigan falls behind us.
Since USC plays ND and Cal, both fall behind us.
WVU beats Louisville, so Louisville falls behind us.
All of a sudden, we are sitting at #8 in the BCS. However, if Auburn does not make it to the SECCG, then we cannot go to a BCS bowl game, anyway. Then we end up in the Cotton Bowl. No reason to get upset with the BCS Rankings.

#1 Ohio State and #2 Michigan play nobody but each other.

#3 Southern Cal still has 5 possible losses on their schedule.

#4 West Virginia and #8 Louisville play each other this weekend. Pull for WVU because they have a worse schedule, and they still play Cincy, Pitt, and Rutgers.

#5 Auburn. Doesn't matter, if the Vols keep winning and Auburn keeps winning, we'll see them in the SECCG.

#6 Florida only needs to lose 1 more SEC game. They still have to play Georgia, South Carolina and at Vandy.

#7 Texas.. grrr, they should have lost to Nebraska. However, they still have some opptys especially with a freshman qb. Texas Tech (10/28) and Texas A&M (11/24) may both give the Longhorns a loss. Texas may also lose in the Big12 title game.

#9 Notre Dame.... grrrx2, UCLA and Michigan State had these pretenders beaten. Let's hope USC loses to some other teams and then cleans ND's clock.

#10 California? How in the world are these guys ranked higher than Tennessee????? Remember 35-0 midway through the 3rd quarter... you know when the walk-ons got into the game for Tennessee. UCLA (11/4) and USC (11/18) are the 2 big games left.

#11 Tennessee crushed #10 Cal already. They blew a lead to #6 Florida and lost by 1-point. Upcoming games include #33 South Carolina, #16 LSU, and #13 Arkansas. Win the next 3 and maybe get some love from the computers finally? Of course, if Arkansas keeps winning, they will definately help out the Vols... they are currently 10th in computer average and are as high as 4th in one computer rank.

#12 Clemson is nipping at the Vols heals, but must play Va Tech and South Carolina.

#13 Arkansas must face the Vols.

#14 Rutgers faces WVU and Louisville. If these 3 teams beat each other, each with 1-loss.... they all drop.

#15 Boise State... hahaha

#16 LSU must face the Vols. They already have 2 losses.

How Vols opponents are going:
Tenn 35, Cal 18
Cal (7-1) is ranked #10 in the BCS. Their computer average is #5. I think some voters tried to get them to drop behind Tennessee in the BCS, because they dropped in the human polls, Harris Poll (11) and USA Today Poll (12). However, the media loves Cal.

Tenn 31, Air Force 30
Turning the ball over on the last offensive possession hurt in this game. Instead of leading 17 or 21 points with 5 minutes to go, Air Force scores, gets onside kick, scores again to get to the final score. Since then, Air Force (3-3) has lost to a good Navy (5-2) team by 7 points and, ouch, lost this past weekend to winless San Diego State (1-5). Their computer average is now 59th.

Fla 21, Tenn 20
Florida (6-1) lost their last game to Auburn (7-1) but still managed to rise in the polls during a bye week. The Gators computer average is 4th.

Tenn 33, Marshall 7
Marshall (2-5) is off to a bad season. They've lost to WVU, Kansas St., Central Florida (on a last play field goal), and SMU in addition to Tennessee. However, they showed some life in defeating UAB (3-5) on the road this past weekend. The once up-and-coming program is now ranked 101 in computer average.

Tenn 41, Memphis 7
Memphis has been to 3 straight bowl games recently. However, they don't appear to be going bowling this year. Memphis (1-6) has not beaten a 1-A team this season and is currently 111 in computer avg rank.

Tenn 51, Georgia 33
Tennessee gets a huge road win versus a top10 team and then Georgia (6-2) goes and blows it by losing to Vandy. Their nail biter versus Miss State doesn't give confidence that they'll give Florida a hard time either.

Tenn 16, Alabama 13
Alabama (5-3) has only lost to 3 teams currently in the top 13 of the BCS. They should win their next 2 games against Florida Intl (w/o suspended players) and Mississippi State. The Tide is 42 in computer avg rank.

South Carolina (5-2) is 35 in computer avg rank. They have a chance to make a name for themselves in the rankings. 4 of their next 5 games include Tennessee, Arkansas, Florida, and Clemson... all within the top 13 of the BCS.

LSU (6-2) is 20th in computer average but 16th in the BCS. they've lost to only Auburn and Florida. After Tennessee, they play Alabama, Ole Miss and Arkansas.

Arkansas (6-1) is the hot team right now. After starting the season slow, they've come on strong with Mitch Mustain at qb. The Hogs are 13th in the BCS and have a computer avg of 10.

Vanderbilt (3-5) is hard to figure out. They've played Michigan closer than anybody else. Lost to Alabama by 3, Arkansas by 2, Ole Miss by 7, and then a big win over Georgia.... then fall apart against South Carolina (13-31 loss) after only being behind 13-17 in the 3rd quarter. The 'Dores computer average is 70th.

Kentucky (3-4) may not be much better than Vanderbilt, but the computers think they are. The Wildcats computer avg is 53. Games against Miss St, UL-Monroe, and Vanderbilt make a 6-6 season a real possibility.... and the way Georgia is playing, 7 wins is not outside their reach.

I think most people's problem is that people don't think we will be able to pass Cal if we both win out. We'll have big wins against Arkansas and LSU, but will that be enough to trump a defeat of USC? If we both when out and Cal is still higher at the end of the season, I'll be upset.

Why would it upset you though? I could really care less where we are ranked at the end of the season if we are not ranked #1. There are few in here that are delusional enough to think that winning the 2006 National Championship is a strong possibility. If Cal wins out, they win the Pac-10 and an automatic Rose Bowl birth. If we win out, we still have to hope that Arkansas and Auburn lose another game (other than our matchup with Arkansas). That is highly unlikely. Most likely scenario right now: Florida wins the SEC, Auburn wins out, both of them go to BCS games. We end up in the Capitol One Bowl. Worst case, we end up in the Cotton.

i tend to agree with TRUT on this...

the BCS isn't perfect, and i don't know how Cal is ahead of us...but at the end of the day, it doesn't matter...if we win out and win a bowl game, i'm not going to look back on this season and say it was a disappointment because of the rankings.

but in all reality, if Cal does beat USC...that would be enough to boost them up toward the top. and if a couple of things happen the right way, Cal is probably in the best position to play for a BCS title of the one loss teams.

as for what bowl we go to....i don't know...imo what likely needs to happen for us to go to a BCS bowl is to win out and have FL beat Aub in the SECCG. that would leave us as the only 11-1 SEC team left besides UF. In just about any other scenario...we're likely playing in Tampa, Orlando or Dallas.

I would like to go to a BCS Bowl but I'll take playing in Tampa, Orlando, or Dallas....Especially after last year

I agree with points all of you have made. I guess I was just very disappointed when the BCS rankings came out today. I just get tired of the west coast getting all of the glory. And it's not just for UT, I mean looka at FL, AK, Aubern, even Clemson. I mean, the East coast has some pretty stout teams and confrences as a whole.
I am by no means disappointed in this season. It's good to finally be in a decent position again (after last year).
Anyway, I'm off my soapbox now. Thanks for the responses and have a good afternoon everyone.
GO VOLS!!!!

It will be enough when USC has at least one more loss besides its loss to Cal.

Why is the Pac-10 rated so highly? Because isn't USC number 1 in the computer ratings? I've been wondering this for a few years now because I thought they were the highest rated conference last year, according to the computers.
