What were you expecting. This is just another reality of the state of the current program. I thought 2005 was bad. Where this program is now, I believe it will take several years for us to recover.

Not surprising since they're coming off a win vs a top-10 team and we got blown out by mediocre bammer. We'll have our chance to correct this error head to head though.

That's because a team only gets a point if they are ranked in the top 25 of any computer ranking (after the highest and lowest ranks are dropped). Neither the Vols nor the Dores are ranked in the top 25 of any computer. The Vols computer rank average is 31.75 whilst Vandy's is 47.00. However, the BCS computer points for both teams is 0.0000.

The Vols got 1 point for being the 41st team in the Harris Poll (0 points in USAToday). Vandy got 2 points for being tied for 40th in the USAToday poll (0 points in the Harris Poll). In the BCS formula, that makes a difference of 0.0003

Basically, the BCS formula is only accurate to a certain point (somewhere around 25th) and then you have to switch to the computer ranking averages.

Tennessee has the 31st highest BCS computer ranking average. Based upon the computer averages, here are some teams that the Vols are still rated higher than:

yep we no longer look at the top of the polls...we look to see how close we are to getting in or dropping out of that #25 spot
