OK, I'm from out of state, but nobody has mentioned Rendezvous and Memphis in the same sentence? Thoughts?

Rendezvous is just fine. It's become cliche'. If not for it's location, it wouldn't be a destination.

Exactly. There's bad que. There's decent que. Then there's good que. I'm never going to recommend someone go to Memphis for mediocre que.

I like Rendezvous a lot, but probably like Central a little better. I wanted to go to The BBQ Shop last time I was in Memphis, but it was already closed that night.

It's not BBQ, but I loved Gus's Fried Chicken.

I haven't been to Gus's downtown. I went to the original spot out in Mason shortly after the famous GQ article came out.

Depending on where you're coming from, you're gonna want to merge on to I-40 heading west, drive straight for roughly 370-90 miles, get off at the 240-split, take the Poplar exit, travel east to Germantown Rd. (take a right), and eat at the Germantown Commissary.

+1 I love the Commissary. Ribs so good you'll wanna keep the bones as souvenirs.

Buddies is what it is. Good cheap BBQ for pulled pork and sides and stuff. All you can eat ribs on Sat but nothing special. The best on Magnolia is Dixons but I have not been to the smoke pit yet so I can't speak for it. He is only open a few days a week. Chandlers is just way over rated IMO and they never have enough food.
Wow, I just can't agree with you about Buddy's being good but to each their own. I just found it to be bland. The potato salad sucks, the cole slaw sucks, the sauces suck, the hush puppies are greasy and chewy, and the baked beans taste like crap warmed over.

I didn't say Buddies was the bomb. I just said in the real of cheap BBQ it is good in a fix. Thats all. I never eat the sauce cause I got my own and I hate slaw. Sides are what they are and I always get crisp fries and hush puppies. But, I go to the one on Magnolia so each one may be different. The only problem I have with Memphis BBQ is that it is in Memphis.

bread of heaven has the best bbq in the knoxville area.

Its good for Knoxville no doubt, but not quite as good as dead end. The lunchtime buffet, however, is incredible. I am totally worthless every afternoon after I go there for lunch.
