Bball recruiting is off the chain

that was his call and he made it. we need and want the guys who wants to be a vol and wear the orange, if you dont then you dont, who knows maybe he will.
I am glad that the program is getting exciting new players, however some of you who keep saying," we need and want the guys who wants to be a vol and wear the orange" need to hold this thought in check. All of the players who have moved on were just as true Tennessee Vols as any of these that are now going to play. I don't think it looks good to anyone who is thinking about playing for the Orange to see such comments. We do not know what the situation was for these players who have move on. IMO we need to show that we are for Tennessee regardless of what a player decides is best for him.

Another point needs to be made here...What makes you think these players are any different than the ones who played for Martin. These players are coming to Tennessee not because of the Vols...They are coming to Tennessee because of Tyndall.

Of course we don't have all the info but it sure seems there were some players and recruits with hurt feelings (Cofer and DT) who just weren't gone get past it no matter what.

Time to move on.

Don't worry it's VolNation we will find something to b!tch about.

Some people are saying they hope we do really well and win 20 games. If we "upset" a couple of teams that we we're expected to win, they will be b!tching because we didn't win 25 or 30.

"Off the Chain" is such an overused phrase that it almost has no meaning. BUT, I have to say this recruiting run is the most pure definition of "Off the Chain" ever. It's no joke.

That being said, I would say DT is history. Tyndall looks like he just took his 50% and tossed it. Not being hard on the kid, but he took his liberty on UT's grace to release him from his commitment, then play to field to see if he can land in a greener place (which he may).

But, it appears the door just got slammed on him today. I thought he could be a good one here and was missing a great opportunity with CDT and this class coming in as a starting PG at the University of Tennessee. Anyway, unless someone else is transferring, I see CDT holding a scholly for next year and rolling with this army of guards now in the fold.

Looking forward to some exciting ball this year. Not convinced we'll make the NCAA, but it should be entertaining IMO.

It's a nice foundation to build on! Looking forward to the future of UT men's basketball.:peace2:

Take your math class in KY?

Don't hate on KY education lol...by my KY math that's 2/7th's of the class from SM and more than likely it will be 2/8th's after Owens which will only be a 1/4 of the class from SM lol.

What's funny is how excited you guys are getting over 2* and low 3* players. A month ago, you guys would have gone nuts if CCM had signed any players with such ratings. I should say most of you, because majority of you have a good thought process. Some, on the other hand...

Many would argue that CCM would have had a full year or years to sell the program and settled for 2* or low 3* players. People are excited about seeing guys that have solid stats and we are attempting to get the best available players at this time. But I do agree for the most part with your assessment.

I think it has to do with circumstances such as us being ranked higher in 2 weeks after a dire situation than Martin was ranked off a sweet 16 run and going into year 4.
Plus, some of the guys coming don't even count, or it would be much higher.

DT has been in the job for several weeks. Why is he not pulling in 5 star talent? Let's find another coach. Meanwhile, you could go find a CAL board and worship mediocrity.

I think most are excited bc this is a great class for only being on the job as long as he has been. We expect better in yrs to come when he has time to recruit but this class is already rated higher than the previous coaches last class.

do you really believe this?

Well, there's a relevant analogy to be made here, and I'm not taking a side, I'm just saying.

There's a playoff in football, now. It's not a full-blown tournament, but it's more than 2 teams.

Would it be better to:

a) Not win the SEC title, but qualify for the Playoff based on wins, SOS, OOC games, etc (like Alabama would have this year) - and subsequently make it to the championship game

OR

b) Win the SEC, and receive an auto bid to the Playoff - but get knocked out in the semi (first) round

The answer is, IMO, going to depend on how old you are and how long you've been following. Older fans are going to say they could care less about the Playoff, give us the SEC title all day. Younger fans, or ones that have just started following in the last couple years, won't care about being the SEC champs if the team still makes it to the Playoff championship.

And you can apply this to basketball with the SEC vs. the Sweet 16. Most likely, the answer is going to be subjective. Because what happens if you don't win the SEC but end up winning the national title? What would you rather have then?

As for me, I'd rather have both. But that's just me.

I think the experience factor should be added into the mix. A 3* or 2* 4 experienced 4, 3 or 2 yr player is of greater value than a 4* Freshman.

It's a bad analogy. The sweet 16 in basketball isn't really a big deal. It just isnt

A better analogy would be for baseball.

Would you rather win the sec or advance to a super regional and only advance as far as a super regional?

That's not even a good analogy. If you make a super regional, you've won a regional. You make the sweet 16 in basketball, you've won nothing

Yes.

No one cares about who won the SEC Championship outside of SEC fans. And even then, it's not that big of a deal. What did it do for Ole Miss in 2013 or Vandy in 2012?

The NCAA tournament trumps everything else.

A Sweet 16 gives a program far more national exposure and recruits from different geographic regions can immediately relate to the accomplishment.

It's not a bad analogy. How many conference championships does Shaka Smart have? Hint: The same number of NCAA championships he has.

Yet no one's going to argue that he's a bad coach and that his teams suck, or that their accomplishments are meaningless because they haven't won their conference. Because they're really, really good in the post-season and while that might not technically mean you won anything in the minds of a lot of people it still means you won something. Thus the Shaka Smart Sweepstakes that schools attempt to engage in every April.

Again I think this is subjective.
