does it seem we are playing too many people? i know its early and we have to find a rotation but this big kid cant run with the rest of the team and i dont see him doing it by year end. he shot like three airballs from closerange. give texas all the credit their two guards are the real deal but 19 points. does anyone know anything about this price kid from arizona. is he sitting this season? im terrible with names, must be from sitting 9 hours in a bar watching the football game and then the bball game saturday. or still hungover who knows. whats the big kids name?

Brian Williams.

And the other kid is JP Prince, from Memphis. He'll play in January.

I know that. But that doesn't mean he gets any minutes. Pearl isn't going to play more than 10 come SEC play and we already have 11 without him basically.

Doh! I'm no basketball newbie. :hi:

I will be surprised if Prince doesn't play. He's a 6'8" guy who can shoot and possibly play the point. I'd love to see a lineup of Prince, JuJuan, Lofton, Chism and Tyler together.

I'm for the lineup that will play the most consistently tough halfcourt D. Any lineup we play will be able to score on most nights, but very few of them will play any halfcourt D. Let's find one that will.

Agreed. See my ? to you on the other thread about who's playing the laziest.

If JP is half the defender his cousin is, he should be one of the starting 5. That combo of height, quickness and wingspan is rare.

I get tired of seeing eveyone and his brother throwing up threes on our team especially when we are losing by a lot. Williams will come around, you can't expect him to be able to run as much as the guys that have been around(not yet). Also Texas shooting 64% from the field played the biggest role in this game (I hope).

Assuming Pearl narrows the rotation, how long does he need to allow for them to gel sufficiently for conference play?

Prince is screwed. The rotation should be settled by then. The guy couldn't get any minutes at Arizona - some of you are overhyping him based on his height/recruiting rank/and who his cousin is.

Sure he could be a good player next year for us. But he won't have been tested by the competition the other players have. If this were last years team - I'd expect Prince to get quality minutes.. but it's not. Don't expect him to get a lot of playing time unless we've got a decent lead in the second half since he comes around at the start of the SEC slate. Maybe some other situations if someone is injured or we are in foul trouble. And you won't see him at point. We just have so many bodies out there and he's not going to much of an effect this year because of that.

Based on what I've seen, I'm not so sure Prince is screwed. We will see how it plays out I suppose.

If Prince were half the player his cousin is, he wouldn't have been rooted to the bench in Tucson.

I don't know what happened to him at Arizona, but I can't imagine Pearl would take a transfer who wasn't going to play much. I'm basing my mild optimism not on his high school rank, but yes, on his physical makeup and also on what I've heard a former player say about him.

And I think Hat meant "rooted" as in he was stuck on the bench, not going anywhere.

I'm not too worried about the time right now. I believe they started slow last year too... maybe the way Pearl uses his rotations and the number of players, starting slow is going to be typical.

Tyler Smith was quoted as saying that J.P. Prince is the best player on the team. He will play a lot.

Prince is eligible in 19 days. Dec. 15th he will be able to play. He can shoot, drive, handle the ball and a really good shot blocker. He had some health problems when at AZ. He's put on some weight and looks good since leaving there. I actually thought before the year started that by tourney time, he would be starting. I don't think so now, but a few weeks ago who would have thought Howell would be starting over Ramar.

Keep thinking that..

I can see it next year.... maybe.

And the health problem isn't why he plain sucked at Arizona - I'm pretty sure that's a big reason why he came home.

I've seen him play and he's better than some that are getting playing time now. I'm extremely glad he is a Vol and after a sucky recruiting year of only Tatum and Williams, he is a very valuable player for our future.
