Baylen Buchanan to start at CB at UGA

I think Buchanan has more football savy and smarts than either Mosely or Martin. He seems to have good reaction and quicks as well...

Will be a good one...

Buchanon is going to be an excellent player. He's got the hips and he's got the genetics. Martin has the potential and hopefully will get it together because his ceiling is through the roof.

Yeah playing CB isn't rocket surgery but it does take natural talent...I love mixed metaphors

#Vols DC Bob Shoop just confirmed that Jr Emmanuel Moseley and Fr Baylen Buchanan will start at corner Saturday at Georgia.

Looking forward to seeing what he can do. Martin was dreadful against UF. Hopefully we have a freshmen who steps up big time and makes a name for himself. Good luck Baylen!

I like this move but am not confident in Mosley. He has gotten beat badly every game this year and has not improved at all this year..I thought Osbourne had a great Spring and Fall and would love to see him get a shot at the other corner position. I know it's not ideal to have 2 true FR starting at CB but Mosely has killed us this year. With the WR's GA we could be in trouble if Eason has time and can get them the ball.

Martin has been burned deep every game this year..I am glad to see Baylen in this game..when he came in the florida game it changed everything with the passing game..He can cover..He might get beat once but just about everyone does..But he does not get beat deep most of the time like Martin...Look how all the teams have gone after Martin in every game..That stops this Saturday with Baylen in there...GBO

Martin hasn't played in every game this year but Mosely has also gotten burned in every game and numerous times per game. Martin has been hurt and hopefully that has been what has caused the bad play. He has the talent and size and just needs to get everything straight. Mosely just doesn't have the skill set to play CB..JMO

BB has played pretty good so far. Happy for him to get the start and continue to improve. Martin and Mosely should improve also, we will be alright.

Whatever happened to Marquill Osborne?

I was wondering the same thing..What about DJ Henderson, the Juco CB we brought in.. usually JUCO guys are brought in for immediate help and I haven't heard his name mentioned. Is he not an option??

Its sad that a Freshman is taking over a 4 star Jucos starting position. Justin Martin should be the next Gibril Wilson....hes going the wrong way!

The point made above is valid IMO. Players are better off 100% focused on coaching and the game plan with the fan insanity all blocked out. Martin appears to need maturity and focus. Shoop even alluded to it a few weeks back in a presser.

Wonder if this could have something to do with his not starting? Just a little reminder from coaches about running his mouth (fingers).

Juco's. Usually the reason kids go that route, is they can't or haven't made the grades to get in universities. Which means they are not smart enough to get in or do not have the discipline it took to learn in high school. To play at this level you must have some smarts and good discipline. CB likely takes the most of both (and MLB).

I looked at the guy next to me after the PF on the opening kick and said they will go at him first play and all day. They waited till the second play, but the KO play let them know he was ripe for the picking.

Our D Line needs to have the primary impact on their passing attack. Keep Eason on his heels (or buttocks) to limit throwing opportunities like Miss did.
I hope they keep our DB's from getting tested.

I am sure that will be our plan. Totally agree. Turn them loose.

The difference is that Baylen was in position to make a play. Martin wasn't even in the picture.

It is very obvious that our DBs have not yet learned how to cover the deep ball. They have their head chasing the receivers and not turning around to play the ball. Defensive interference every time. And it is not because they lack the speed. Just poor coaching ??

During the Ohio he allowed a long completion down the sideline but what I like about it was, unlike his counterparts he got his head around to locate the football, he was in decent position, but just missed on the break up. The Ohio WR simple made a great play. Even though he didn't prevent the completion I saw enough on that one "failure" that tells me he "gets it." I don't mind an occasion deep completion if the CB is in position and made a good play on the ball (attacking the high point). If the WR just beats then with a good catch that's one thing. It's another to get beat, the WR running free, the CB playing catch up, or not getting their head turned to locate the football in the air. The other guys have done that this year and either drew a penalty because they didn't turn around or just got smoked for a crushing completion

I feel pretty good about this, still hard to believe a freshman leaprogged everybody else on the roster, must be a special talent. This is good for recruiting too.

I read somewhere that Martin is battling an ankle injury, which would explain why he took a step backwards this year. Buchanon looks like a natural at the CB position, he was definitely a steal.

Martin has a great frame on him. He just needs to play smarter and be more familiar with the scheme and opponents tendencies.

It was Baylen B. that gave up the second deep ball last Saturday. Martin wasn't the only one to get burnt. I'm for who gets the nod, but not for calling out players, especially given the track record of talent evaluation around here.

Good luck to Baylen. Nice job earning a start his freshman yr.

The second half was better because shoop adjusted the safeties to play thirds so that way they had support.

I agree UGA will have to sling the ball deep and often a lot. Their team has been reduced to throwing it to set up the run rather than their traditional reverse of that. Who knew UGA this season could not run the ball with Chubb and Michel as RBs?

The same reason we struggled the first few games offensively: OL. If your OL is not clicking, then your run and throw game will hurt. Look at LSU as well, Fournette hasn't done much this year bc they can't throw the ball. If you don't have an OL and are 1 dimensional on offense in the SEC, then you're not gonna score many points.
