Baylen Buchanan is a leader at cornerback.... TFP article

How do you know this? The kid has barely played, and when he has played he's gotten roasted. Has Pruitt given you exclusive access to all the practices? lol

Corner will be a weak spot in 2018 and probably 2019, until Pruitt can recruit some corners and really put his stamp on that group. Corner play has been atrocious at Tennessee for a number of years now. Before Cam Sutton, the last Tennessee cornerback to be drafted was Jonathan Wade in 2007.

For all the position groups to get high on and troll about, I suggest you pick another, because corner is one of the weakest position groups for us and has been for a long time.
I think the cornerback is also the group that can benefit the most from coaching. We now have three experts in the field to coach these guys, so I don't think it's unreasonable to have high expectations of them

Last year, Baylen's nickname was burnt toast.

Hope it was the coaching and not the player.
One thing I've noticed through the years especially with our team is that the fans always judge the cornerbacks much too harshly. It more than any other position on the field is out on an island and all of your mistakes are Amplified. We could have Deion Sanders or Champ Bailey out playing and we would still have people calling him hot garbage and the complete waste of a scholarship

We've also just had terrible play at that position. We've had a number of guys at the other position groups, even highly visible position groups like RB and WR where mistakes are obvious, drafted. Before Cam Sutton was taken in 2017, it had been a full decade since we had a corner drafted. For a big time program like Tennessee, that's absolutely pathetic. It seemed like Butch had corners, particularly Martin and Moseley, whose coverage skills were pretty good but could not make a play on the ball. My guess is that's coaching, because making a play on the ball is more of a technique thing. They had the athleticism to be in proper position, but they couldn't do anything when the ball got there.

My case in point

Do what? Express my opinion? Isn't that what message boards are for?

With regard to Baylen Buchanan, I've been high on him since his freshmen year. He has an air of intelligence and confidence to his game that is beyond his years. He reminds me a lot of 90s CB Eric Davis that played for the San Francisco 49ers and Carolina Panthers. Eric Davis made 2 pro-bowls. I feel Baylen can do the same. He's not a superstar talent like Cam Sutton. But he's good enough to be a high level starter in the NFL for many years.
The kid may very well one day grow into a pro bowl type player, but making that claim is as premature as it gets. There's nothing in his play thus far that suggest he will make it to the NFL, much less be a pro bowler. Just oumonthe brakes a bit, when you claim over and over all these players are pro bowl players, it kinduv makes you look like you are just throwing **** against the wall.

He's a pro bowl NFL corner, but he's not a superstar talent? Makes sense!

"we're gonna get beat sometimes, but we're gonna get beat doing my technique"

-Jeremy Pruitt

We have 3 guys that are more than qualified to coach db's.

And none of the guys that will be lining up at cb are gonna get confused with an all American.

I'm guessing we'll flash at times, struggle at others. And it'll still probably be better than what we've seen in recent years.

Everybody makes the Pro Bowl nowadays. To me a superstar is an All-Pro talent. A guy who is top 5 at his position. Cam Sutton will be that. Nigel Warrior will also be that. Baylen is just a notch below them as a very good NFL player who will make a Pro Bowl here and there. But he won't be a guy who is top 5 at his position and recognized as one of the very best in the league.

Alontae Taylor will absolutely make you think that in time...

I love that Fair is a VFL but I wish Pruitt has retained Warren. I don't think Fair has the experience.
This group will need more coaching than any other as the talent level just isn't there.

T Fair is every bit the coach Warren is/was. Give me a guy that bleeds orange all day when the coaching is equal.

According to you... isn't everyone?
Remember our All-American defensive back named Stephen Griffin a year or so ago? He predicted that too.

I suspect that these predictions are all being bookmarked. Then when someone does go beast mode on the SEC, it will be a giant "I told you so party". Just keep throwing 5h1t at the wall and see what sticks.

Yeah. He's already done that a few times. Throw a big enough blanket out, you're bound to be right once in a while.

D4H is the worst poster I've seen in 13 years on this board. He's irritatingly ridiculous.

We finally have real coaching(at least hopefully). I'm not ready to write any player off based on how they performed under Butch. IMO, everyone gets a fresh start. Personally, I hope BB tears it up.

If you simply stated your opinion, people wouldn't find you so annoying. You present your opinion as absolute fact and suffer from this delusion that you're this great evaluator of talent. You have at least as many misses as you do hits, but you continually deny your misses. Accept you're nothing more than a casual fan like the rest of us and stop taking up airs. It's okay to hope for players to develop and have success, but you somehow see yourself as the arbitrator as to which players that will be. You're not.

The best part is when he suggests that he knows more about talent than say... Pruitt or draft analysts or NFL GM's.

All this from a guy who admits he's never played a down of competitive football at any level.

Just watch how good Stephen Griffin plays for NC State this year and eventually in the NFL. Guys tend to play great once they get away from Butch Jones. Look no further than Emmanuel Moseley who is about to play himself into a roster spot with the 49ers. Latroy Lewis has played himself into a roster spot with the Texans. Jason Croom is doing the same with the Bills. And that's not counting our drafted guys like Kamara that are already household names and NFL superstars.

The 2016 Vols will be remembered in a few years as the most talented team in college football history that accomplished the least. That team was filled with NFL talent up and down the roster. Here are just some of the names that will be playing in the NFL for a very long time:

QB Joshua Dobbs
RB Alvin Kamara
RB John Kelly
WR Josh Malone
WR Marquez Callaway
WR/TE Jalen Hurd
TE Jason Croom
G Kahlil McKenzie
DE Derek Barnett
DE Kyle Phillips
DE Latroy Lewis
DT Shy Tuttle
LB Daniel Bituli
LB Darrell Taylor
LB Darrin Kirkland Jr.
LB Austin Smith
CB Cam Sutton
CB Emmanuel Moseley
CB Baylen Buchanan
S Nigel Warrior
S Stephen Griffin

That's 21 NFL players on a single college team and they didn't win more than 9 games. This will be looked at as one of the greatest rosters in college football history with the single worst coach ever.

I seriously think Shamburger has an awesome year.. Everybody knows we need some good play in the secondary

Unfortunately, WV will test the Vols secondary early and often come Sept 1 and fans will get an early view of what to expect going forward...... Good or bad
Go Vols
