Battle @ Bristol ...surrounding area

Here's the website of a rental property on south holston lake, looks like it will accommodate quite a few people.

If you go into Va. and have a Tennessee carry permit you better not be packing. Virginia is California East now unless something changes.

Thanks to being hijacked by that lying, charlatan, A-Hole governor, Terry McCauliff. Shame on the voters of the great state of Virginia....

Laurel Marina Laurel Marina is what I think your looking for. Great place and a good friend Travis owns and runs it. Great people. Give them a call for sure!

Johnson City is definitely the best option if you're looking for some nightlife. Not great but it's a lot better than the other areas mentioned in this thread. I live here and they're doing a good job trying to bring downtown back to life. There are some nice little bars and restaurants down there. Here are a few of the bars downtown I'd suggest:

Label-bar/restaurant. Good atmosphere and good food.
Tipton St.-Your typical college bar. It's beside Label.
Yee-Haw Brewery- Great bar. There's also a restaurant in with the bar called White Duck Taco.
Johnson City Brewing Company-Another good one.
Atlantic Ale House-VERY small but a pretty cool little place. There's typically a food truck parked outside if you're hungry, NOLI truck, and it's excellent!

Good restaurants downtown:
Freiberg's
Mid City Grille
Tupelo Honey
Main St. Pizza Company

Worth nothing:
A new sports bar just opened in the center of town called 50/Fifty Sports Tavern. Good food and drinks. The place is big and definitely the best sports bar in town.

when you go to the track, get there early and try to rent somebody's front yard on the other side of the track to park your vehicle,it speeds up the time on getting out of the track

it has been many a year since we done that, but it works :) we did park a couple of miles away and hitched a ride in on a truck and hitched a ride back and it was fast as hell, but you never know about that happening :)

Well...Pigeon Forge it shall be. One house in Abingdon got booked before we finalized and the owners of the lake house never responded. Found a sweet log cabin in PF with hot tub, Jacuzzi tubs, game room and half off zip lining at the local place. Sleeps 9 and is $880 for 4 nights. Split between two families and we pay $110 per night for all that. The game day drive will be tedious, but should definitely be worth it for the other 3 days.

Thanks again to everyone for the help and ideas. Gonna look into some of the rib places and hiking trails that were mentioned.

It goes without saying, Just make sure to leave super early. Kind of obvious I know but the traffic for even a 50,000 occupant race is an absolute nightmare, I can't imagine triple or almost quadruple that. They are notorious for blocking off left and right turns in certain places so miss a turn and you may drive 2 miles before you can swing back around. Even Knoxville game day traffic is more organized. Plus Pigeon Forge on the weekend is a nightmare in itself. Would be well worth getting in super early and hanging around outside the track. Will be plenty to keep you occupied. Have a safe trip!

I was thinking we'll leave PF @ 2 if the game is at 8. 2 hour drive + plan for an extra hour or so of traffic to park. Gives us @ 3 hours to do whatever. Or am i kidding myself?

I'd say you'll be fine. Plenty of time. Get there much earlier and you'll just end up brawling with some obnoxious Tech fans.

50,000? Uh no. Try 100,000+.

Park with the direction you need to leave in mind and you'll be out in under an hour. Turning around is not allowed.

Lol ...the glory days of 100,000+ at the race are over. Although I was pretty surprised at the turnout this last race. The game should be 150,000+ all said and done I think is the last count I heard. Can't wait :)

Bristol sees largest crowd since 2008: Picture-perfect weather combined with a pre-race concert by Steven Tyler and Jeff Gordon's last race on the high banks led to the largest crowd at Bristol Motor Speedway since 2008. While a capacity crowd was often taken for granted during the days of 55 straight sellouts from 1992-2008, it's actually quite a feat to fill the world's eighth largest sports stadium in one of the smallest markets which NASCAR races. Jerry Caldwell, BMS Executive Vice President and General Manager, credited the speedway's team of employees for helping to make it the huge turnout, estimated over 150,000 strong, a reality. "It's a massive crowd here and we're really excited about it," Caldwell said. "The team worked so hard for so many months. They've put everything we've got into all of this from Steven Tyler to (famed boxing announcer) Michael Buffer (who did driver introductions) to the 43 greatest drivers in the world."(Johnson City Press)(8-23-2015)

It wasn't 150k but it was 100k+. Good crowd.

Just speculation throughout this thread given the size and pending hype. Some think lock for prime time.

Don't need museums or amusement parks. Just some good hiking, maybe some waterfalls, lookouts and stuff to keep us interested. Probably gonna do Chattanooga, just looking for a backup. I Appreciate the assist.

Check out Damascus, VA. Beautiful place with lots of hiking and biking trails with bike rentals. It's also close to Abingdon where you can visit the Martha Washington Inn or maybe the Barter Theater.

Go get a Pal's Hotdog

Ridgewood BBQ.

Never been impressed with their BBQ, (fighting words for some people around here) but the blue cheese crackers are awesome. I'm actually more partial to Phil's off Eastern Star Rd. But there's so many different tastes and individual preferences for bbq, it's almost cult-like.
