Battle @ Bristol ...surrounding area

I am coming down from PA for the VTech game in September. Gonna go to Chattanooga for a few days and then head up north for the game. Problem is hotels are booked in Bristol already.

Are their any cool towns, or towns with decent attractions within an hour of Bristol?

We are considering Pigeon Forge or Seiverville's inndoor water park, but really don't want to drive that far south after the game only to head back up north to PA the next day.

You might try Johnson City or Kingsport, which are the closest cities to the game site. Elizabethton is also about 20 minutes to the speedway. If you can't find hotels in these places, then maybe Greenville would be a good choice, which is about 30 minutes away. Pigeon Forge and Sevierville are usually a mess traffic wise on the weekends, so I would suggest staying away from there, unless there is no other options. One other option might be Boone, North Carolina, a little over an hour away from Bristol. Oh, and Asheville, North Carolina would be an alternate choice, a little over an hour away with several hotels and cool places nearby.
First time I've ever heard Kingsport and cool in the same post.

One side of my family still lives up there, beautiful place. I miss getting to go back there, but you know how time is. I am actually not familiar with Meredith Valley. I plan on retiring to shady valley when the time comes. Have you ever been to weavers store on blue springs rd. That area is basically where my family lives.

Not trying to butt in, but I know that area well. Used to work at UHS. Great community!

We'll there is the Walmart and upcoming new stadium at high school. Sure had some good memories when the high school was the high school not junior high and we played football there and I was in the band.. l I ts to look at when we gobqck. OHH when you go around the monument, my mom..God rest her soul, was over veteran services and her office was next to the court house, that building now is pink for some reason.

The monument, I had forgotten about that, I loved the cannons. The covered bridge is still there I believe.

That's where pretty much where everyone on that side of my family went to school. There used be a sign on the press box that said, 'Dougs Den'. That is my uncle. I really like the area as well, just don't have the time to get back up there.

Greeneville (with a e) has lodging but limited so make a reservation early! If you play golf Graysburg Hills outside of Greeneville is the best course and about 35 mins from the speedway .

There is one in Bristol, south holston lake we found. Not cheap, but location may also be worth it.

I believe you should be able to find a cabin in the area for a descent price. South Holston is a beautiful lake though, so if the price isn't to ridiculous I would take it.

I heard him do many games. "Bad wreck on the 30", and the two ends of the field were "up the creek" and "down the creek." Good memories!

Also for those camping the Earhart campground is in the open field next to the track... Probably run around 150-200 for the weekend (at least that's the race prices) and typically if you drive a Toyota you can park free during the races so I'd assume you can do the same for the game. It's definitely a party!!!

I'm not sure that Earhart will have the campgrounds during the race. Might be all leased by Bristol.

Not a vacation site by no means but not a bad little place to live. I live in Colonial Heights just a few minutes away. Kingsport is cool with me, because I am not getting in cluster F**ks everyday trying to get to the Mall,Target or work, but that's just me.

Exactly right GH, I miss being able to drive where I need to go with out having to take traffic time into account. It's just a great area, not sure why some are hating on it. I guess they don't like the chemical plant which makes it possible to have a lot of the amenities we take for granted.

Need to update my profile, i moved back to Colonial Heights a couple months back. Great place to live.

Love going to games to Knoville and coming up every so often during the offseason but don't know if I would want to live there everyday. Had a job offer at Dow Chemical and had a offer at BAE at same time and took BAE. Don't know if I could have the patience driving in Knoxville. I get very aggervaiated when I got to wait an extra 5-10 minutes once in a while here, would probably have a heart attack up in that traffic.

I've lived here for a little more than 17 years now and it is a lot better than it was when I moved here traffic wise. Still not as layed back as the tri cities. Another of my uncles was the director of Holston defense for about 20 years before BAE leased it. Did you see where dupont bought Dow? I definitely miss the tri cities, but knoxville isn't to bad.

Bays Mountain is a nice outdoors/ attraction. Walk through the wild animal reserve and see wolves in their natural habitat. Take a barge ride on the lake and then watch the Planetarium show inside (and lots of other exhibits). We used to have a picnic there couple times a year

I believe that will change, from what I was told they haven't even decided how many portable bleachers they are going to install. Just what I was told.

Both schools sold their 44,000 they were each allotted, I believe 44,000 was the number. And the rest were all sold almost entirely to Bristol Motor Speedway season ticket holders. The remainder of tickets that were left were all sold Friday Oct 2 to people who went to stand in line all morning to purchase them.
