Battle @ Bristol ...surrounding area

LWSVOL, I wasn't trying to call you out, I just couldn't believe with all the hotel properties were sold out. Wanted to help keep all the Vols I could in the tri cities area. It's going to be fun, probably not a great game though.

I used to operate a hotel & be a travel agent. Many hotels will not book more than 10 months out. So, it's very reasonable that rooms for September just opened up.

Also for those camping the Earhart campground is in the open field next to the track... Probably run around 150-200 for the weekend (at least that's the race prices) and typically if you drive a Toyota you can park free during the races so I'd assume you can do the same for the game. It's definitely a party!!!

A member of our group is liking wytheville location, but I'm not seeing much to do. Is it a decent spot to stay at and do short day trips?

Comfort suites $110 per night that week...but don't wanna be bored.

Honestly as a few have said Abingdon is your best jumping off point. I would hate the drive back to Wytheville after the game at midnight.

The sleep inn at the tri cities airport exit I noticed still has rooms. I've stayed there a few times pretty nice for the money.

Edit: I was wrong it's the comfort suites in Kingsport that still has availability.

Yeah I was thinking it was still pretty rough or even demolished. Haven't gotten back to the area in a while, need to go see my kin up on the creek.

UT_Dutchman, I am from Elizabethton and have a lot of family up on the creek. Our reservations for Bristol are at Meredith Valley Cabins in Elizabethton. Looking forward to going back as its been quite the while since being in Betsy town.

Wytheville is a cool little town, with stuff to do within short driving distance. I live about 15 mins from there near Virginia Tech and Radford university. Lots of great outdoors stuff, some good local dining as well. Depends what you're looking to do, I'm from here I can certainly give you ideas.

Tazewell will always have cheep lodging. You might have a few junkies next door. But it will be cheep

One side of my family still lives up there, beautiful place. I miss getting to go back there, but you know how time is. I am actually not familiar with Meredith Valley. I plan on retiring to shady valley when the time comes. Have you ever been to weavers store on blue springs rd. That area is basically where my family lives.

I don't know if people will do it for the game, but some people rent their homes out for the races. They go on vacation and the people staying in their house pays for it. And if the econolodge is 350 a night... I need to consider renting my basement. Good Lord.

Anyways, I second checking out vrbo, etc.

My family lives off Blevins Hollow Road Stoney Creek. I know way back I was on Blue Springs road but I've been gone from Carter county since 1970. So much has changed and some not for the best, like drugs. Meredith Valley cabins are in Watauga right on the river, fully furnished and all we take is the food and fun.

Found vacation rentals in dugspar/blue ridge highlands. Very reasonably priced especially when sharing cost in small group. Anyone know dugspar?

Yeah you are right a lot had changed heck there is four lane all the way up to that hump in the road everyone used to jump. Did you ever go to AO Buckles store, that was my great uncle. Cabins on the Watauga sounds great.

Yep been in Mr Buckles store, wow what a memory. Haven't been up the creek in years and years. MY family are the Ensors. when we go up for Bristol that will be a perfect time for a big drive around without anyone knowing we are about.

Yes!! When the Northwestern band would play n their fight song, it was just like go ye ole betsy. Somehow our song many moons ago was taken from the NW melody.. asked their band director in Tampa if he knew that bit of trivia and he said no. Did graduate from Elizabethton? TennFan and I graduated together in 66. He posts here from time to time.

A lot has changed, but a lot is still the same. I am going back up in the spring and do some driving around myself.

Not a lot to do out there. Your best bet is somewhere right off interstate 81. Wytheville, Dublin area not bad at all, a lot to do.

We'll there is the Walmart and upcoming new stadium at high school. Sure had some good memories when the high school was the high school not junior high and we played football there and I was in the band.. l I ts to look at when we gobqck. OHH when you go around the monument, my mom..God rest her soul, was over veteran services and her office was next to the court house, that building now is pink for some reason.

Johnson city is the easiest route back into bristol, straight shot to the track and lots of things to do compared to the surrounding area. As mentioned Abingdon is nice but can be hard to navigate in places if you aren't familiar with it. If you like to camp there are tons of campgrounds around the track. I live right near the track, not a race fan but I love to go camp around race time. Loads of free beer and new friends to be made lol. The atmosphere is unrivaled so I can only imagine what it will be like for the game:clapping:
