I am coming down from PA for the VTech game in September. Gonna go to Chattanooga for a few days and then head up north for the game. Problem is hotels are booked in Bristol already.

Are their any cool towns, or towns with decent attractions within an hour of Bristol?

We are considering Pigeon Forge or Seiverville's indoor water park, but really don't want to drive that far south after the game only to head back up north to PA the next day.

Sorry...didn't mean to put on recruiting page. Mod, please move. Thanks

Abingdon is close by. Cool town, Creeper trail, fishing on N Fork, Mt Rogers. may not be your cup of tea. Downtown JC has Carnegie, new Brewery, Tupelo Honey Cafe, and a couple cool restaurants...a bit of Asheville in JC.

You might try Johnson City or Kingsport, which are the closest cities to the game site. Elizabethton is also about 20 minutes to the speedway. If you can't find hotels in these places, then maybe Greenville would be a good choice, which is about 30 minutes away. Pigeon Forge and Sevierville are usually a mess traffic wise on the weekends, so I would suggest staying away from there, unless there is no other options. One other option might be Boone, North Carolina, a little over an hour away from Bristol. Oh, and Asheville, North Carolina would be an alternate choice, a little over an hour away with several hotels and cool places nearby.

I have a friend who has been to a race at Bristol, and he says that traffic is terrible. Will take hours to get out and get home. We have been contemplating our travel plans for a while. My in-laws have a place in Gatlinburgh, but it could take quite a while to get there, and I am guessing the game will be in prime time.

I expect a prime time game...or at least am hoping for one. I want to be at the game site by noon. I'm sure it's wishful thinking, but thought 8 hours early, traffic MIGHT be tolerable.

The Wife and I lived in and got married in Asheville. Believe me. Buddy of mine found this out this weekend when he proposed to his girl, YOU cannot find a room in asheville under 250.00...weddings, events, tourism. Its insanity. Call ahead like right now.

No matter where you are staying....plan on 3 hours to get out of Bristol! Or just plan on a long tailgate after the game! Not even Bristol will be ready for an extra 60k fans.

Thanks all...next question...if we decided to stay north instead of Chattanooga, are JC or Kingsport enough to keep us busy for 3-4 days? Wanna mix outdoor stuff(hiking, etc) with some attractions.

Plenty of camp grounds! Most with electric & shower houses. We are coming down from Northern VA with our pop-up camper. Come join the tailgate!

GBO!!! Can't wait!

I reserved a camp area with my ticket order JIC. Maybe we'll just plan to camp that night.

not really. i mean, my family and I enjoy this area bc of the mts. if youre looking for attractions. i dunno what to tell you. Asheville has a thriving downtown area with restaurants and bars. JC has a recently renovated downtown and is close enough to the NC mts, (Roan Mtn Cabins are a wonderful option, fishing, hiking, canoing on Watauga) but dont take your cell phone. Kingsport is dead.

'the other side of the Smokies' Hot Springs, NC is a 40 min drive from Erwin. We love to camp there. its super cheap and supports the camping experience inba small trail town. might be an option😎

Don't need museums or amusement parks. Just some good hiking, maybe some waterfalls, lookouts and stuff to keep us interested. Probably gonna do Chattanooga, just looking for a backup. I Appreciate the assist.

Would definitely recommend going into Abingdon and renting bikes to ride down the Virginia Creeper Trail. Easy and ride, great scenery, and a fun thing to do one day. They have a shuttle that can take you to the top.

Yes, please do so! Always happy to host Volunteer brethren. Our friends in Chattanooga are joining us as well. So the more the merrier! And I'm sure there will be plenty of festivities pre & post game.

Appalachian Trail is not so far away, numerous state parks in TN and VA, and several lakes as well. That time of year, still gonna be hot.
