Battle At Bristol WebCam

Kind of scary that this much work needing to be done in such a short period of time. I worry about the players footing being solid unless field turf or something. Will sodded grass take solid hold that quickly for all the explosive movements the skill players will be making?

I was hoping they would do this!

As I've mentioned before, one of my co-workers drives the rescue squad that sits in turn 3 for the BMS races and he will also be working the game. He gave me an update this morning and thought I'd share with my VFL family.

* Your ticket will have to be displayed at all times while on BMS property, which will all be fenced in with various entrances.

* You HAVE to enter at the gate number indicated on your ticket.

* Once inside the track/field you cannot go out and re-enter.

* Prepare for all but a cavity search to get inside the facility.

* The same Trams that operate during the races will be operating for this event. (Thank GAWD! Those hills can be BRUTAL!)

* This may have already been posted, but the end zone between turns 1 and 2 will be our end zone and the one between 3 and 4 will have that 'other' teams logo.

GBO!!!

Also prepare for price gouging. They are charging $38 for accessible parking.

...And Day 2 of the transformation begins.

Nothing says "on schedule" at a construction site more than seeing the job shut down for the night. And the B@B transition crew is totally shut down. Only things moving in view of that web cam at 6 a.m. are moths. So rest assured that they'll be ready by game day.

The lull in activity gives a great view of how far along they've gotten with the field:

The first thing they put down on the infield was a water-permeable barrier that would keep the fill from being washed into the drainage system. Then on top of that, they put a layer of sand. Finally, the gravel goes on top of the sand bed. Eventually, they'll put a rubber sheet and then the astro-turf on top of the gravel.

The picture shows that they've just about finished the sand layer all across the field surface, and have begun placing gravel on about half. So really good progress yesterday!

I read somewhere that putting the fill in place was expected to take about 3 days. And since they're on schedule, that means we may see the rubber sheets and maybe even the turf being placed on Thursday or Friday.

During the day today, I think we can expect more of what we saw yesterday from the web cam: placing and compacting fill material, pre-positioning supplies, bringing down the barrier fence, and clean-up in the stands. The most curious thing for me today is, how quickly will we get to the point where the fence is actually disappearing from view?

Go Vols!

Note: we'll be able to find out this morning roughly how much of a delay the web cam is on (we know it's on delay, the web site tells us so). Sun has been up in Eastern Tennessee for about an hour now, but the sky's still dark on the web cam. So something around an hour or two?

Not to be a nay-sayer, but it just looks like the endzone seating is gonna be too dang far from the field to me. Glad I'll be watching on tv.

The view from a camera, any camera, is really unreliable for getting an idea of how things will look to the human eye.

The eye and brain work really magically together to bring distant things 'closer' when you focus on them, and the resolution of the eye is hella good. Seeing it through a camera breaks much of that ability of the brain and eye to work together. So even when it's not a panoramic lens (which this web cam probably does have), you're not getting a good idea of how it'll be in real life.

Sure, the field will be much farther away than it is in Neyland; Bristol's a huge stadium. But the view won't be nearly as bad as it seems if you're going by this web cam and other camera shots.

I'm guessing this is going to be all about the atmosphere and just being there to witness history. Its crazy how small a golf cart looks on the webcam. If you aren't looking for it, you almost don't see it moving on the screen. I can't imagine you'll be able to see much of the game from some of the upper seats.

I am a season ticket holder and have been for years. The view is not that bad. Obviously any camera makes it look further than the eye can tell. I doubt it will be as bad as some on here think. From the end zones possibly but not from either sideline.

Its been on. You just have to make sure you are on live stream and then click the different camera boxes to bring it where it needs to be.

where do we sign the partition to turn the black and white checkerboard of the left building to orange and white?

Serious question, are they going to remove that scoreboard / video board that is about 100 feet up the air above the field? I can see Trevor Daniel hitting it EVERY SINGLE PUNT. (of course, some Vol fans say that it won't matter because UT won't have to punt). I am more realistic however.
