Come in on Voluteer Pkwy from the interstate, turn left on Weaver Pike, follow that road till to get to Hwy 394. Turn on towards the racetrack there are fields of parking on the left side of the race track after you go by the entrance to the drag strip. There are shuttles for the races from those lots.

Spoke with my source at BMS this morning, if you're all paid up and ready to go, they'll be sending out tickets/parking passes this coming Friday, July 22. She also added they'll be in a non descript envelope so no one will know what they are.. This gonna be fun!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Since you're staying in Abingdon, check out Wolf Hills brewery for some great brews, before or after dinner. Or both.

I normally tell my wife to stay in car. If wait time is less than 30 minutes we eat inside and she can find place to park within 30 minutes. If longer than 30 minutes I order inside only takes 10 minutes to get food and park at Mc Donald's in Piney Flats and get a couple of sweet teas and eat there.

So there are 7 of us going. I was not able to get tickets through the raffles that have taken place and will be getting my tix through stubhub (yes it's expensive! But worth it!)

We have our hotel in Abingdon so that's a go! Now to my questions.

1. None of us have ever been to Bristol so any suggestions on seating would be very appreciative!

2. Parking/camping passes. I have a buddy that wants to get a camping pass but he's not sure how to come by this. I saw on stubhub camping and parking passes but not sure if that's for a day or a couple days. Any incite here would be awesome!

3. Where to tailgate. Exactly! Where the hell do we tailgate! Lol gonna be prepared to bring a couple grills and plenty of food and ����.

4. Any other things that I missed or some advice would be greatly appreciated!! We are looking forward to kicking ass and watching the vols all season!!!

I posted this in another thread, but thoughts folks in this thread might find this interesting.


I work with a gentleman that drives the rescue squad that sits in turn 3 for the races and he will be working the game for BMS. Some of the things he's shared with me regarding the Battle:

1) A logistic nightmare. No doubt!

2) The fence(catch fence) separating the racing surface from the stands will be taken down. (Storm the field?)

3) The mirrored lighting system that lights the track will be removed and those mobile lighting structures will be used.

4) The seats that will be on the actual track surface(those $400 suckers with cup holders) are brought in on a flatbed type surface and adjusted to the banking via hydraulics.

5) The field level will be even with the pit wall height.

6) One of the many safety concerns are stampeding. He has advised his family to get UNDER their seats. I mentioned there isn’t much room under the seats. If everyone else is running for their lives, there will be room.

I hope someone, somewhere does a documentary on what all it takes to pull an event like this off.

The problem with game is not too many college football fans camp. Yeah it takes time to get 150,000 fans cleared out but this is not their 1st rodeo... Several years ago it was nothing to pack 150,000+ in Bristol. After game enjoy tailgating a few hours then go home, camp somewhere, or drive 1 hr up the road to get a place to stay.

Ah yes...that was the good ol days. :good!:

Gatorhater has the right idea....hang out after the game and let traffic thin out because there WILL be traffic. Even if you hurry to your vehicle right after the time runs out on the clock, you will only be stuck in a line to get out of the area/field you are parked in.

Anyone interested in a back roads route to get to the track from 11W?

I would say the three in Bristol are better. Bristol Brewery, Holston River and Studio. Holston River is close to the track. :thumbsup:

Getting out will suck, no doubt. But if you've ever parked near the stadium on gameday it takes about 1.5- 2 hours after the game....for big games that UT wins or are down to the wire. The B@B is what it is. It's 160K people to watch a football game.

Also coming from VA (all be it the other side as you) but what I didn't realize until my group started planning for the trip is that the Richmond Saturday night race is the same day as BaB. As a result of both events going on at the same time and the obvious interest level for folks in VA, the entire state was rented out of campers and RVs. We had to get ours in NC but for us that wasn't very far out of our way.
