My folks have bats inside their gable vent. 30 of them to be exact. They aren't inside the attic as there is a screen on the inside that they can't get through.

Any recommendations on driving them out?

Their next door neighbor has them too but they're pretty sure he doesn't know it.

Not their gable vent.

Here's what you do: you take an extension cord and a radio. You turn the radio up playing obnoxious music and you hang it next To where they are sleeping during the day. You keep it running for a couple days. This Will not allow them to sleep during the day. Once you are sure that they are all out of the attic area, take a half inch wire gauge screen and nail it to the inside of the vent This will prevent them from getting inside. I will send an invoice forthwith.

Leave them alone. I understand the guano issue, but they are killing all the mosquitoes and other flying insects around their place. I'd take a power sprayer to the guano and skip the West Nile virus.

With all the infected skeeters running around Knox, I wouldn't mind having them around myself.

I had a bat problem at my house. They were young bats and had found a place to roost between the brick and trim. The guano may be a problem...once it gets dry, if disturbed, the dust can create respiratory problems. Not to mention that 10% of them carry rabies. I gave a call to All Creatures Wildlife Services in Knoxville. Basically, they sealed up all the areas where bats could get in, and put up a 'bat door'. That's basically a funnel looking thing that lets the bats out, but not back in. They came back after a few days and removed the door. Haven't had a problem since.

I take it you have not had bats in your house.

How much did this cost you?

i seen a thing on TV advertising natural problems for pest control and they said to just put a bright light in your attic or wherever the problem is and to put up some screening to keep them out,i would put up a bat house somewhere outside too,to keep them around to eat skitters and bugs

I will say it wasn't cheap. How much it will cost you will depend on what will need to be done, such as how much of the house needs to be sealed. With the folks I used I could have had them do all of the work suggested, or just part of it and cost adjusted accordingly. I believe the original site assessment cost $125, but that was put towards the work done on the house.

"The bats in the gable with the silver spoon..."

Yes, it was cheesy, but it was the first thought that popped into my head when reading this. Carry on.

I had 2 bats get into my basement. Put on thick gloves, hit them with a broom, carried them out, and sealed the hole.
