IMHO, not cool. It's beneath Bates's pedigree to hold one of these cheesy press conferences. NFL teams are going to be watching him from day 1 wherever he goes to college simply because of his last name. He doesnt need a mocked up presser. Plus, we lose the advantage of him announcing now and gaining more momentum. We also don't get him recruiting for us for all of June. Of course, if he picks UT at the presser and makes a big deal of it, the pub will certainly help....i get that. :) I just think the negatives of him doing the presser outweighs the positives.

And call me a negavol if you want, but if UT is such a slam dunk for Bates and he has such a good relationship with the staff then why would he put the staff and fans and everyone else associated with the program through that bs? Maybe a better question is why his PARENTS would allow him to do that to a university that they apparently love? If Bates has decided to go somewhere else, that's 100% his decision, but his parents should make sure he declines UT in a respectful way and not include us in his very public circus.

With that said, I hope he brings his talents to Knoxville.

So what say you? Presser cool or no? Please justify your answer and have a geat weekend.

He's a kid. It's going to be on national TV. I would have done the same thing if I had that talent in today's time. It's not the end of the world.

I wouldn't call it a presser...it's very common for big name recruits to announce at big camps and games. I personally think it's a good thing because he will be announcing on national television, at a 5* star camp, that he will be playing football at the University of Tennessee. Not only does the nation take notice, but I'm sure several other players at the Opening will as well.

As long as he is a Vol, I don't care how he does it. An announcement at an event like the opening is great for recruiting. One of the all star games would also be great. Of course the sooner he picks Tennessee the sooner other recruits follow his lead.

We had 2 commits this time last year.. So the rest "put us through all that bs"? Na. We're just spoiled and getting greedy now. I get the greedy part. But let's not cry when someone commits in July

Some of the most likely people to be watching that show are kids who may be invited next year.

Having a kid pick up our hat and having a bunch of solid recruits see it will not be a bad thing.

There is no presser. He is announcing at the event, that event is not entitled "Dillon Bates Commitment" It is called "The Opening"

OP needs to do research before posting.

As long as he puts on the Tennessee hat, I don't care how he announces. He is a big time prospect, so it really could help get some other big fish, if we have anymore room at that point :loco:

I read somewhere in a previous post that his father advised him to take advantage of the free visits and see other schools because it was a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity for him as a highly touted recruit. And if I remember correctly it was made to sound like there was no chance he was going anywhere else other than UT.

not everybody think like you?:dunno:

what is wrong with a teenager having his momment?
Any time a kid picks up a UT cap and put it on on national TV and says he is going to the Vols, is always a good thing. If he wants to go on ESPN U and do that then great for this kid.

I have no problem with it. Would I have done it? Probably not, but hey more power to the kid. He's not gonna get the chance again

I see this thread as much ado about nothing...

But ask yourself this... When was the last time you saw a big time commit hold an actual ceremony with a national spotlight and actually put on that orange hat with a Power T...

I feel like I see all these other schools getting bigtime public commits, i want to see the same for UT for the first time in awhile.

I wouldn't call you a negavol, just negative. Nothing wrong here. Stop trying to spin

If I was in his position, you better believe I'd hold a press conference type thing. It's a unique and special opportunity for these players.
