All the coaching hooplah here lately got me thinking about how important it is to have quality coaching. seeing as the big three in all our mens sports have recently went through coaching changes i felt like this would be appropriate. Great programs rise and fall based on coaching hires, just look at alabama football. (as much as it hurts my heart to use them as an example) But in which sport is having a good coach the most important? Which one needs more than just elite talent to get by? Please dont turn this into a huge DC argument thread, im tired of hearing about all of that crap so please stay on topic. thanks

Neither basketball nor baseball really even really require a coach.

thats kind of how i feel, in basketball a couple great players keeps you in most games. baseball maybe requires a little more coaching than basketball seeing as they make the calls on pitching matchups, when to pull a guy, when to try to pitch around a guy etc. but football is by far the most coaching intensive in my eyes

This clearly shows people who never played all three sports growing up.

In football and basketball, athletes can single handedly win you games with no coaching whatsoever, especially on the high school and college level.

Baseball is completely technical. You cannot take a Lebron james and put him in a helmet and expect him to even be below average. Quality coaching in baseball is what makes players. Hell, if a pitcher throws the ball wrong for too long he can destroy his arm, good coaching stops that.

In game coaching it requires very little, but it requires more out of game coaching than the other two put together in terms of one on one and teaching proper form and technique.

i dont know about not needing much out of game coaching in football. i was a lineman and the amount of true technique needed to really succeed is really high. i mean its not just getting in front of someone. its tons of footwork and leverage and scheming. yeah the skill position guys can get by a little easier on pure athleticism but offensive lineman need a ton of teaching.

I agree with exception of one point, in game coaching is extremely important for baseball. Situational coaching is imperative with regards to defensive alignment, first and thirds, as well as offensive situations concerning squeeze bunts, hit and runs, etc.
