Here's a little insight for those who don't know what a big deal winning the NIT versus losing in the first round of the NCAA really is. Many don't have a clue!
2014 National Invitational Tournament Field of 32
Missouri, Arkansas, LSU, Georgia, California, Florida State, Georgetown, West Virginia, Minnesota, Clemson, Illinois, SMU, Utah, San Francisco, Indiana State, Louisiana Tech, Iona, Vermont, Florida Gulf Coast, Davidson, Utah Valley, UC Irvine, St. Johns, Green Bay, Belmont, Georgia State, Southern Mississippi, Robert Morris, Boston University, St. Mary’s, Toledo, High Point

So some schools made a crappy tournament one year. And..?

Don't know why this even gets debated every season. NIT is a consolation prize, I'd much rather being playing for a National Championship then in a consolation tournmet.

That said obviously if you make the NIT might as well make the most of it.

I would rather Tennessee go to the NCAA even if it means lose in the 1st round. The NCAA Tournament is much more prestigious than the NIT.

You are not playing for the national championship at all in this scenario. You "know" UT loses in a play in game or can watch them win 5 times.

All I can say is that Butch Jones and this football team and most of VolNation treated this bowl win like they had won the national championship after not making one since 2010 four years ago. Some of you make me wonder!

This program just came off a Sweet 16. Makes me wonder about you. Yes, I get the whole new coach thing, but 3 years ago the situation was exactly the same. Wonder why suddenly the NIT is acceptable.

Did u look at the voting.....it's not acceptable

I don't see how this is even a debate. NCAAT every time, that's what every team in the country is trying to make it into so they have a shot at being #1 when it's all said and done. The football analogy isn't any better, if you asked would I rather make the football playoff and lose game 1 or win the gator bowl? I want to go to the playoff!

It's really not, it's just every year some yahoo around here brings this up, and there's always a handful of people that actually believe an NIT championship would be better.

It would make me feel better if other fanbases had the same few who think it, but I doubt it. The only fanbases that might would be ones like Alabama or Auburn, who don't know much about basketball nor care.
